Hi, I am new to this forum, but I took notice to the memorial thread for fallen riders and I wanted to mention my father in law.
He was involved in a motorcycle accident last year in later October as he was on his way to a new job he had just started. It was not his fault, and he was not riding in a dangerous way. He was side swiped by a woman in a Saturn and was thrown from his Goldwing and flew about 75ft. He suffered multiple fractured ribs and a completely fractured right arm that had to be surgically repaired with titanium rods and pins. He was in the hospital for a while spending time in the ICU ward and went through two surgeries.
He was finally released in mid November on his way to recovery. While he was home recovering, he apparently developed some blood clots in his lung area and died the day after Thanksgiving after passing out the day before at our family friends home while celebrating the holiday.
It was a real shock that he died and nobody had known that this would happen obviously..he seemed that he was going to be ok and just had a long road ahead of him to heal..but he was going to be ok..so we all thought.
The hard part is knowing that he couldnt wait to get back on two wheels..he loved riding..although he didnt particularly care for sport bikes..he still loved the ride and the road...and he had told me in the hospital that he wanted to heal up and get back out there..
He also told me to be careful when I go ride...and to always keep an eye out when I'm out there on my bike..
He was an enormous father figure to me..and I miss him dearly..I was so proud to have the honor to call him "Dad"..
So Dad...this is for you...you have some many people that love you here and we all miss you so much..and..I will always try and be as careful as I can when I'm out there riding..
