Did anyone see on AMASuperbikes.com the horsepower rating of the 04 600? They stated it to be 118 hp and a redline around 16500 RPMs. That is insane!! I am very curious as to wether or not the hp specs are rear wheel or crank ratings. 118 hp seems high for rear wheel for stock hp but 118hp at the crank isn't that impressive because at the wheel it will be about 10% less (106 hp) which will not make it a class leader. Anyone have any insight on this?

Well, HP is different on each continent. Mine is registered at 106 bhp, but it's got 120hp (without the RAM). That way you pay less taxes. I haven't read any european hp tests yet (haven't been published so far)

Id bet that the 118 is measured at the crank without ram-air. But 106 hp is still a good number... maybe not class leader but they might have bumped the power curve in other places to make more power down low. Either way, there are alot of things that come into play there. First, the rating could be with or without ram air (which is good for a few hp) and it might be SAE or DIN. The germans use the DIN system to dyno their cars and end up with a higher hp rating then if they had measured it using the SAE system. The systems use different calculations to get hp from the torque readings the dyno gives. Not to mention the ambient conditions that engine was running on during its dyno test. Humidity, temperature, and pressure all have effects on engine performance.

No matter the numbers these bikes are getting faster every year and a few hp here and there is no big whoop. Here is the two GSXR 600 articles if anyone want's to read the review.

I'm looking forward to the 750 review in Japan later this month. It's gonna be good!

Well you were reading optimistically...16,500 rpms was where the reve limiter kicks in, it redlines at 15,500 roms. And the 118 hp was at the crank I believe without ram air...with ram air is around 122hp

Sport Rider's dyno says 103hp for the 04 600. That number you referenced is a crank figure.

Moreover, sportriders dyno reports the 04 gix made the least hp compared to the 03 and other 04 600's...That sucks

yeah but there all within four ponies, so that's pretty much a wash. I'm sure the new gix will be more than competitive, especially with Yates behind the controls.
