: first run in a while
bmfgsxr 02-12-2004, 10:34 AM well, after hurting my back (i tore ligaments severly from yanking up a wheelie going downhill at 90mph in 3rd on my 750, she came up and i rode her out, but i couldnt stand up for over a month). anyway, since the injury i havent been able to go running cause the impact killed my back. ive been riding the bike for the past couple weeks to get my cardio going, but i prefer to run. so today i went out and picked up a nice pair of adidas and went for a couple miles. i tell ya what. i can feel the strain on the ligaments behind my knees big time.. i did some stretching, but those knees arent used to holding up 210lbs and running anymore. hopefully, all goes well and i can keep it up. id like to get down to 200 even. id feel pretty tight at that weight.
so, who else is running?
Get yourself a 1K, then you don't have to yank wheelies up at 90+. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
No running for me... yet. I think I will start doing some running in the near future. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Sun Burn 02-12-2004, 10:43 AM That's real similar to my story minus the torn ligaments. I prefer running over riding a bike anyday but I can't b/c I have a pinched nerve so the impact is too great. I'm using an elliptical machine to simulate the running motion without the impact. Eventually I hope to run on the treadmill again.
Congrats on your run. I hope you can keep it up. Also, if you are running on the street you should try the treadmill. It'll be way less stress on your joints than the road.
bmfgsxr 02-12-2004, 10:48 AM lol.. yeah a 1k would have made it easier. as it was i was doing side by side standups with my friend on his 1k so he of course didnt have any problems.
i do prefer to use a good treadmill as i can set it for incline only which is the lowest impact you can go for, and they also "give" a little so its definately not as bad. i used to run 40 miles a week years ago. then i started on the treadmill and i could just get into a good groove on the treadmill cause i could set my incline and speed and just hammer away without every having to worry about how far i had to run to get back. haha. but i havent been to a gym in years. i have about 450 lbs. of free weight at my place, a bench, bike, and i do everything at home. i got into the best shape of my life doing pull ups, pushups, dips, running and some weights for shoulders and arms. plus, at home i dont ever have to wait for anything, i can listen to my music, and i can work out butt fucking nekkid if i want.
but i may take it to a gym just to use the treadmill and some of the machines. im working through a shoulder rehab as well (yes, i have abused my body over the years from sports etc...) so the machines would help out in that area. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
I used to run for cardio ALL the time, but not anymore http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/frown.gif Busted my knee this summer and well, it still hurts when I do anykind of impact

the low impact elliptical machines should help you out. Its funny how you can run for days inside of a gym on treadmill or a bike, but when you run outside its totally different. You die after the first lap.

I only run on a treadmill at the gym because their shock absorption systems are so great.
CHiPZ 02-12-2004, 03:31 PM Yeah BMF I still remember that day, I think I still have the picture from that day.. I have the same problems sometimes from my torn ACL I had fixed years ago, sometimes I can run on the treadmill fine for 20mins straight and others I can't do even 5mins. But the elliptical is the next best thing. I do 20mins on the treadmill and 30 on the elliptical every day after work.
I have pretty much given up on running serioulsy. I'm around 215 give or take a couple, I have abused my body over the years
wrestling, martial arts, mostly the wrestling that was the worst. For cardio, I swim or practice, throwing punches and kicks for
an hour and more is a great workout especially wearing my wieghted vest.
After having boths knees blown more than once running is http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/plthumbsdown.gif
I still run on occasion, mostly in the summer with my wife and dogs, at 112lbs her knees don't hurt her.

bmfgsxr 02-13-2004, 08:45 AM yeah, i think i may just have to join the gym in anticipation of my bones hurting me from the road. and it is very addicting. i hope to be able to stay with it because i am carrying about 10lbs of non performance enhancing weight http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif and because cardio is a tremendous help with racing.
yeah, that day was the worst pain i had ever felt in my life and that is no exaggeration.
oldgixxer 02-13-2004, 09:16 AM I really never got to into the running thing after I pushed 200lbs.Just too much stress on my knee's.I'm sure you feel my pain Big Man http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif
bmfgsxr 02-13-2004, 11:10 PM yeah, my knees werent feeling too good the other night... im going to have to do some serious warm up and stretching. and just take it easy to start. but if i manage to keep with it (all depending on how it goes) i will probably join the town gym and hit the treadmill.
