Using those colors, I'd probably paint the frame most flashy color (pink), because it's a stuntbike :)

Or if you want the bike to be almost only pink:

Or white with pink:

This picture journal is AWESOME! Please keep it up. I would love to do something similar to my 03-750 but I am not as confident as some of your guys are at taking apart a whole machine like this. Seeing you do it gives me some confidence that I can handle the job myself without having to pay someone else $1000.

BTW...I want to paint my frame black. I know you can powder coat, but I the one thing I don't wanna do is take the engine out. I know you can use the truck bedliner spray like two people on this forum did, but I don't really want the frame to be rough like sandpaper (sometimes I wear shorts here in hot Miami). So here's my question...What about taping off the entire engine and parts, sanding the frame just short of a polish, and using high temperature automotive spray paint? http://www.hightempenginepaint.com/

I just did what you are talking about this past weekend. Still alot of work, but doable. I sanded and prepped the frame. Primed it and did the whole thing black. After I was done someone told me that using vinegar on the bare aluminum is one of the only ways for the paint to stick to the aluminum. It makes the metal become porus. When you paint it, the paint seaps in and then the pores close.

Yeah, butch as!

What are you using on the motor now? I'd guess a mild solvent/abrasive like AutoSol or something to get rid of the accumulated crud, and have some degreaser handy as well. There's no substitute for a toothbrush, toilet brush, soft wire brush and lots of elbow grease.

Well started the body work this week.. heres what 21 hours of sanding looks like.. I started at 800 grit and now i'm up to 3200.. ]

if it took 38 hours to sand one bikes panels ,you've wasted about 35 hours .My 7 year old could sand a whole bike in 4 hours and his hands are the size of golfballs.I cant imagine what you have been doing and then i realize you STARTED with 800 grit ,,are you trying to be the first person to succesfully polish plastic to a chrome like finish ???

its none of my buisness but why the hell are you using 800 to start and up to 3200 ? 800 is used on base for before clear coat ,and even thats pretty high . 3200 would only be used for wetsanding before a high polish ,and even thats too high,if you cant polish paint with 2000 you need more practice .

NOTHING you spray on 3200 will stick .I'm suprised you havent started a fire yet with trying to sand with 3200.You should have that bodywork prepped to around 320 before a sealer .The amount of break throughs and mutiple levels of paint etc will be nothing but problems without a sealer /primer ,and even then you've created a shit storm of a mess .Even the primer /sealer wont stick to 3200 and it would almost stick to glass ........which is what you have rigth now

with a 3200 grit sand the paint will flake off in a stiff breeze,or if someone has a conversation too close to the bike.

do yourself a favour and stop what your doing

Well when my boss's brother is north American BEST body guy.. and he just did 2 barracudas for the owner of some trucking corp in the states. And made 23 million a car.. I'll believe him over you.... Right a average Joe.

Your looking for MICRO fine sand scratches to adhere the paint. And when you have about half a dozen different devilbiss cvi hvlp guns to choose from. But when you learn to paint and show me some of your work.. I'll believe you..

It's half ass jackass's like you that are like OMG I"LL RUSH THIS AND GET DONE AND IT WILL LOOK AWSOME.. and you wonder why you have to re paint it in 2-3 years.. because you didn't do it right.. maybe if you took it to a "A" grade level instead of your civi "c" grade level you would be more happy with your bike.. because if you were "a" grade. your bike would be ran till it hit operating temperatures and then Shut down rebuilt from SCRATCH make your own pistons.. make your own block*and bury it in sand for 10 years* So before you got off shooting your mouth about Shit that you obviously DON"T know about. Save yourself some typing time and go live in your 300k$ house and make your 20$ a hour.

So you get it to the point where you only allow the sand lines to flow the SAME WAY you plan on spraying I also have to work in a 40% humidity room to keep the plastics at proper flex. with a wet floor to keep my dust down. Also have to wear NON powder latex gloves for the sanding, and seems like the first coat of primer on the one side of the front fairing held up nice..*if you even looked at the pictures*

Oh and just so you know.. all the reeds dairy or milky way trucks you see out there.. He painted :chucks

AND FINALLY.. IF YOU DON"T LKE THE THREAD.. PISS OFF..

Yet those don't impress me :lmao

Enjoy wasting your time.. I'd like it if the mods would delete his posts so it stops clogging up my posts...

If you have to paint more then 2 bikes ever 5 years.. to make a living. YOUR DOING IT WRONG!.

2 barracudas... 2 years EACH.. 23 million EACH... 1 bike 3 weeks.. 900 bucks.:lmao:lmao:lmao

YOUR A JOKE.. Face it.. Your arguing with a 20 year old kid and your what 34.. and have a life.. obviously your life must suck THAT FUCKING MUCH if you need to argue with a 20 year old.. Do you push your kid down to make yourself feel strong too.. What a loser.. Like seriously man.. Go make some real money.. CHANGE PROFESSIONS.. if you have painted 2000 bikes and your still working.. FUCK you suck at your job.. even if you charged 1000 a bike

2000x1000=2,000,000 In all your years.. Well in 2 cars done boss's brother made=46 million in 5 years... 46 million divide by 5*for one years work* is 920,000$ so in 2 years he made more then you did your WHOLE time painting.. And he has been painting for 10 years.. after he used to test drive for porsche

Please continue.. We all need a good laugh up here in Canada.

want to keep in mind to try and get most of the paint away from the weld so the paint does not contaminate it ,but for a spot that small it should be fine .Put another little bit of weld in that crack area on the top side so that you wont need much filler and it will still remain flexible

Always test the weld past a normal failure point before paint ,or the day you go to mount it all painted up ,or when you go to wetsand and polish it wants to crack and make you want to kill someone.:crying:biggrin

keep it up tho,looking good

Just running through your photos-- and althought they are about a month old, i notice that the last shots of the engine show uncovered throttle bods.
you may learn from my past bonehead experience, and cover them with 4 sponges or clean rags. I only made the mistake once, but it was a doozy!

Well since I"m about doing my own work.. I'm redoing my oil seals and dust cover on the front forks..

Now I've got them apart.. and I'm getting new seals and dust cover tommorow.. Now i was reading the service manual and it only has the method of putting new oil in is to take the spring apart.. I'm wondering if theres another way.. i didn't take spring assemble apart at all.. just took it out of the tube..

Anyways to put oil in and make her good to go?

69 WILD 1
01-10-2010, 11:34 AM
No you dont have to take the spring apart jst slide it out clean it up with WD-40 clean the tube put the spring back in and fill it up.

gixxercan
01-10-2010, 01:26 PM
then whats all this take on taking the spring apart.. and charging something and what not.. I'm ONLY changing my Oil seal*not that they needed it very much but they started to leak a little* and my dustcover*one was ripped a bit* and the oil looked like jeuss himself made it.. Looked like grey tar. no thickness or anything to is.. it was no different then water..

Alright.. I got new dust and oil seals for the front forks and I went with 5WT fork oil.. Now I"m thinking I just pure in the reccommend amount.. Compression the shock a couple of times so theres no air.. then check the oil level again and add it needed then just put it together is this correct*I just took the fork apart and took the dust and oil seal off. everything else is together, The inner spring mech is all together not touched or taken apart.*

Okay.. so BACK to my question.. i took my front forks apart to change out my oil seals as the left one had som blow by.. Now i took the oil out aswell.. can I just measure out the oil.. dump her in and compress the fork with the oil seal off to get all the air out and then when theres no more bubbles(top up the oil if needed) and then slam the oil seal in and the dust cover and be done or what should I do.. I'll take pictures tonight on how my forks sit

Thanks Armi,

Anyone know if A 1000 rad will mount up and if it will cool the bike some more.. or just slam another fan in there and call it a day?

I'm looking to run the bike a bit cooler*averages 76-79C when Riding, 91-98C when idling for long time*

Is there a oil cooler I can put it with little problems to appear or no?

Could you just run a switch to your fan so you can run it constantly? I know a couple of guys over on SL have done it.
