Huh?!? If you formatted your hard drive, then all of your data would be deleted. You would be getting a different error. Something along the lines of "insert boot media" or "OS not found". Do you mean that you defragmented your hard drive? What OS?

I would try a reformat again. If your installing with Windows XP start the installation and delete the current partition and then have windows xp reformat the drive for you. You can also go to a hard drive co.'s website and download software that you can make into a bootable disk to boot to then reformat the computer that way and then install the os like normal.

I used my other computer to format it using the format tool ... I plugged the other hard drive into my other ide cable and rebooted mine and it located the other drive . At that point i right clicked on the drive and hit format ? ? ?

But, if you aren't fucking with us, the problem is that when you format a drive, you erase all the data on it, so it doesn't have an operating system to boot with. You need to boot off of a floppy or cd and re-install the os.
