Took my CCW class last Saturday and now I have the unbearable wait to get my permit ahead of me. The instructors said current processing times mean it's probably gonna be a long 60 days at least.
The class itself was kinda fun having not taken formal shooting instruction before. The first instructor was kinda dry and he handled the boring (but important) stuff on firearms law. The second instructor was much more interesting - not only a better presenter but he had the more fun topics on firearm and marksmanship basics. For the portion on different handgun types (SA, SA/DA, DAO etc.) and holsters he brought out one gun after another that he had concealed on his person (total of five plus two more revolvers he had on the table).
After the afternoon lecture then we got to the fun part - range qualification. It went pretty easy for me thanks to practicing for it so much. I didn't even need all ten shots to qualify. They needed 7 out of 10 good hits at 5 and 10 yards (5 shots each distance). We finished the first five shots at 5 yards but the power went out as we were in the 10 yard shoot. I got off four shots and all of mine were good but most of the others only got off one so they had to wait while the rangemaster let me and one other person leave without shooting our last shots since we were okay. I joked that I had a taclight on my XDm so I was fine with taking my final shot anyway :D
All in all I think it was well worth the time and would recommend it to anyone even if they don't plan on carrying just for the great info on laws, gun safety and fundamentals :)
