: gsxr engine swap to other bikes? UK LEE
jhendrix 01-18-2004, 06:48 AM Lee- I have a left over 750 gsxr engine and am toying with the idea of transplanting it to a different bike. Maybe an older kaw? yamaha? I used to own an older yamaha radian and rode the wheels off the thing. I have no idea if the gixxer engine would physically fit but that might be a good candidate. I'm sure you have had a much better chance to see something like this done than i have..... SO what are some off breed things running around your neck of the woods. Thanks a bunch in advance. Randy
UK lee 01-18-2004, 07:18 AM you can make any engine fit virtually any frame - given enough time and effort !
some of the weird and wonderfull hybrids i've seen using the GSXR oil cooled motor are
1100K in a Z650 frame
1100M in a Z1000 frame
750G in a DR650 dirt bike frame
750L in a Gilera Nordwest ( dirt bike ) frame
1100H in a GS1000 frame as well as the Katana and EFE frames
750K in a GSXR400M frame ( MENTAL !)
1100 in a Norton featherbed frame
750 in a triumph trident T160 frame
the old air cooled motors ( Zeds , GSX's , GS's etc )seem to be physically much bigger than the GSXR motors , so they usually fit quite well into those frames , the GSXR motor is a little taller though , some of the hybrids i've seen seem to have had their fuel tanks modified for extra clearance
jhendrix 01-18-2004, 08:54 AM Thanks Lee- Guess i will start looking around for something with a trashed engine. A guy i work with has an old ducati monza 250 that might fit the bill. Maybe make some kind of old school looking retro racer with some serious balls. Thanks again. Randy
edmonds 01-18-2004, 03:46 PM Oh man!! a monza 250 with a gixxer engine - sweet!!!
Would make an awesome bike
jhendrix 01-19-2004, 07:52 AM Yeah- I saw a picture of one that was set up for racing. The old timey looking bubble fairings. Just a little pad for a seat. That would be cool. The only thing would be the width of the gixxer engine versus the ducati. I could probably part the engine out and get my money back for the chassis though. It has got me thinking a little.....
skidmark 01-30-2004, 05:27 AM Older Kawis can take gixxer motors pretty easily...
go here and look under "Suzuki GSXR street cadres Kawa" to see some pics:

jhendrix 01-30-2004, 07:55 AM That is cool!!! It gives me some more ideas on the next project if i ever finish the one i'm on now!!
Stocky 01-30-2004, 11:59 AM I've always wanted to put a TL engine in an RGV !
You know what I'm getting at ? 1000cc Vtwin in a 250cc Vtwin chassis with USD forks and good brakes etc. all with a really short wheel base and sharp handling. (frame might nedd a little bit of bracing)
Trick up the RGV a bit and poke 140HP up it's ass and it would be an intersting ride !
Can't see the front wheel being on the ground a whole lot ... but that's sort of the point isn't it ?

edmonds 01-31-2004, 01:49 PM Mad idea stocky!
Would make an awesome bike. Ive toyed with the idea of a xr650 engine or something similar with a turbo or supercharger in an rgv chassis. I t would be great to piss off some r1 and gix1000 riders....
Know anyone in S E QLD or northern NSW that can do that kind of work?
Cheers
Edmonds
UK lee 02-01-2004, 01:17 AM one of the regulars at a local bike meet used to turn up on a real wolf in sheeps clothing.
It was an aprillia RS250 with a Suzuki RG500 V4 two stroke motor shoehorned into it
The motor was bored to 570cc and was tuned by Stan Stevens ( highly reputed 2 stroke tuner ) , it had hand made Swarbrick expansion chambers fitted - and these were the only hint that the bike was non standard ( apart from the noise when he fired it up ! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif) .
He had done the conversion very neatly , and it was all hidden behind the stock bodywork - like i said , the only thing that would make you look closer was the fact that it had four pipes at the back instead of two http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif
skidmark 02-01-2004, 11:52 AM Got any pics? I'd love to see the bike http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif
Gixkid600 02-04-2004, 12:15 PM I want to put a tuned V-Max motor in a cradle frame gixxer. Never seen it done but I think it would be cool. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif

DAMN, I knew I should have bookmarked that site http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bitchslap.gif, I was just looking at sites late last night because I want to build a 500cc 2 stroke streetbike, and the Apprilia platform is the most plentiful ( along with bieng able to register it )and close to what is needed in the states, and I saw that same bike he is talking about. I was looking for the site for the last 15 minutes for you, but I still can`t find it. They are stuffing that 500 engine in everything, there was even a video of a fully modded RGV250 with the 500 in it, the bike was sick. If I find it again, I will post it up.

Just out of curiosity where would one get a 500cc V4 engine? Is it actually the same basic motor as a gp bike?
Bones_GSXR 02-07-2004, 08:17 AM Now that you guys brought up my other favroite bike (2 stroke streetbikes) RG500 engines fit into both the RS250 chassis (with some cutting) or the Suzuki RGV250 (with a bolt in kit) But you will have to deal with a limit of about 120hp (and still pretty reliable) but it ends up at about 325lbs. The handling is wild. I am saving for one of my own. I grew up on 2 strokes and still ride a CR500 (street legal) Motard but it is in its ice race trim right now.
Check out this link for a RGV250 conversion: RGV-RG500 (http://www.suzuki-rg500.com/rgv500.htm)
FastCat 02-10-2004, 09:54 PM Hey Bones, how did you pull off getting a registration for the CR500 for road-use?
THAT sounds like a tasty project!
Bones_GSXR 02-10-2004, 11:38 PM up untill 00 the titles did not state "off road use only" I just went to the DMV and said I wanted to register it. Alaska is one of the 6 States that will not let you change a "off road" title to a regular one. Wa would let you do it with a inspection for the required DOT items up until the 1st of 03. Now you guys are in the same boat. Id is still ok with it if you want to truck it there.
