What controllers are you currently using for your PC gaming, and/or like the best?

I play everything from first person shooters to racing games...I am in need of a new game pad etc., and wanted to get a feel for what everyone liked/used....

Cool! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Thanks for the info! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I just ordered a xbox controller to usb converter so I can use my xbox pad on my computer. Haven't had a chance to use it though. The driver was just written by some guy, so I've heard it works fine in some games, but not others. I might have to learn how to write a driver if it doesn't work for the games I want.

just an fyi on that controller I posted it can be configured with any game every button on it is programmable to do what you want it to and it has a dual jog wheel on it. plus you can use it with many computer programs like photoshop, video editers etc the sky's the limit with it http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

OK, I got the adapter in, and tried it with a couple games. It works really well after I found the right driver, but it does seem more sensitive than when I use it on the xbox, but I might just need to fiddle with the settings some more.

Here's where I ordered the adapter

http://www.midwest-games.com/

and this is the best driver that I found for it. It supports all the buttons, but only the sticks are analog so far (again, I might just need to change the settings some more)

You have to download two cab files, one is the driver, the other is the setup utility.

SWEET! Thanks for the follow-up........Good to know. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

I think I am going to have to give it a try as well. I am trying to get my company to get me one of the ShuttlePro ones that MPD was referring to because if they work out we would possibly buy anywhere from a couple more to a few hundred -- just depends on how they worked within our work-flow.

Anyway, thanks again for the review and links..... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

I just played MotoGp on my friends X-box, and that controller is pretty good. But it has nothing on a good forcefeedback wheel with pedals. But ok, for motogp 3 it was pretty impressive using the xbox controller, wheelies were so easy. But a ff wheel still outperformes any gamepad, theres just not anywhere near enough sensitivity or range of movement. I mean that those small sticks, though good for a gamepad, just won't let you have good enough control, let alone not give you ff. Try Nascar Racing 2002 or 2003 from papyrys racing with a good wheel and you'll see what I mean. (Besides the two non-oval tracks (watkins glen & sears point) you can download more on the net, just in case someone would complain about ovals being boring ;-) . That game I can vouch for anyway. Imho that is simply the best feel any car game offers)

For flight sims you can't go wrong with CH sticks, yokes and pedals. They're pricey though, and might not have as many fancy buttons as other sticks, so unless you take your sims seriously, meaning always full realism etc, they might not be worth it. They do last a long time and offer excellent control.

I just got X-plane and it seems amazing, though the FlightSimulator series are good too. IL-2 Sturmovik and Falcon 4.0 for combat flying. The good old Longbow 2 for Helicopters, though it's very old I've yet to find a worthy replacement. All they do nowadays are arcadish shoot em ups in helo games.

I don't like games like skating or snowboarding games, or NHL/football/soccer/what-have-you team games that are controlled from above, but I guess gamepads have their place there. I do like fighting games like tekken, and there the gamepads shine again.

For everything else, the mouse&keyboard reign supreme http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif
(Or did I forget something?)

I guess I take my gaming pretty seriously http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif
