That would be my guess

I am BY FAR no expert, but the cylinder looks rather small to me for a .44mag :dunno

He claims it to be a 50 caliber:dunno

I'm sure it was just for the movie...I always wanted to know what gun that was.

yeah, but this is the movies :lol

If that IS the case, it can only be one of these as far as I can find :dunno

BFR .500 S&W Magnum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Magnum_Research_BFR)
Raging Bull Model 500 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taurus_Raging_Bull)
Smith & Wesson Model 500 (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Smith_%26_Wesson_Model_500)
JTL-E .500 S&W Magnum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/JTL-E_.500_S%26W_Magnum)
Thor Raptor (http://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=Thor_Raptor&action=edit&redlink=1) (.500 S&W Magnum (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/.500_S%26W_Magnum) pistol)

And looking at pics, this is the only one that looks close

Searching around Google though, most seem to think it is a .454 casull

SVS

Looks deceptively like a Freedom Arms Model 83 - which comes in a number of barrel lengths and calibers including .50AE and .454 Casull:

http://www.freedomarms.com/img/gunwbullets.jpg

Also that movie is from '86 (as per IMDb), when most of the guns you mention, Joe weren't on the market. The M83 was, though.

The 50AE wasn't out until '88 and the .500 S&W not until '03 so the ".50 caliber" quote in the movie is just Hollywood BS... Like the "ceramic Glock 7 that doesn't show up on airport X-rays" in Die Hard 2 :lol

Moto_Joe
04-20-2009, 10:40 PM
yeah, it appears the SW .500 is only from 2003 to present, and the .50AE was developed in '88, so the likelyhood of it being a true .50cal as he says in teh movie seems slim :dunno

I'm going to have to go with ss ruger super black hawk in 44mag. It looks exactly like mine, but the clip isn't too detailed to be able to say for 100% sure
