I was wondering about the torque on the new 750's. I am in a personal struggle on whether or not to get the 750 or go all out on the 1000. I had a '02 600 until it was stolen 2 weeks ago from a local charity event for kids called the Toys for Tots toy run, which is run by the shriners. It is a 24 mile ride with about 26,000 participants and at the end you donate toys for needy or sick children for the holidays. Anyhow, I was getting tired of breaking my back trying to pull that thing up to do wheelies so now i am ready to move up but just wondering if the 750 is going to increase in torque and HP so it will snap up in 2nd. I am 23 and i want to get the right bike for the way i ride so i won't be stuck. I love the look of the 750 and everyone tells me how great of a bike it is. SO i am stuck trying to figure out which bike i want. If the 750 will be a keeper i def. want to go for that, especially due to insurance reasons down here in FL. Any info, opinions, and otherwise would be greatly appreciated. All of you guys be safe and have a great day. Thank you in advance.

These are rough guesses, but I'd say ~60lb/ft for the 750 and ~80lb/ft for the 1K. Somebody else in here prolly has the exact #'s.

personally i would probably get a 750, great power, but not an insane amount like the 1k, i know a guy who has an 03 1k, and coming off of an r1, is afraid to stunt it because it has so much power, granted the added power will help, but if you go -1/+2 gearing on a 750, it will run hard and pull up as high as 4th gear, i have an 01 with a little work and regearign, and i believe it to be a more rounded out bike than my friend's 03 just because on my 750 i dont have to be afraid of the huge power of the 1k, even though id love to have a 1k http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif

So between the 60 and 80, are we talking a huge difference. And i don't want to get back into gearing. I loose to much up top when i wanna go. I know there is a trade off, stunt with no top end or vice versa. Also you say you would love to have a 1k, does that mean that it is just a better bike?? That it is worth the extra? I am just in love with the paint scheme and the 750 seems like an all around bike, but 750 owners say they feel like they grow out of their bikes, and 1k riders say there is too much power, so where do you go with that. Thanks for your help, and Merry Christmas.

cc's = torque...pure and simple
It all depends on the type of riding you do. If you ride solo all the time and don't mind shifting a little more then a 750 is great. If you ride two-up much, the 1000 is easier to ride smoothly.
I would't be concerned about the extra horsepower of the 1000. It's all about throttle control with this motor. It can be as tame as a kitten or a friggen monster depending on your right wrist. However, the 750's have always had the better STOCK suspension.
It's a tough choice.

Based on your posts you've pretty much decided on getting a 750. You mentioned insurance and that you want to stunt with it. Just get the 750 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif. Not as scary to stunt with and also won't be burning a whole in your wallet with tires. Plus you get that sweet scream to 14,000+rpm http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/applause.gif and enough power to beat any http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/squid.gif on their 1000's.

I have a GSX-R1000 and my girlfriend has the 750. I get a lot of time riding both. Mind you it's not the '04 750, but the '04 will be very similar, just improved here and there.

So I'm in a good position to give you some info and feedback here.

The 750 has plenty torque especially compared to a 600. Obviously it's less than a 1000, but I'll put it this way. I have 14000 miles on my 1000 so I'm pretty used to it. And nevertheless I don't miss the torque really when I'm on the 750. The only exception being if I'm going 100mph on the freeway and I want to instantly reach 125mph. Takes a second or two longer on the 750, whereas on the 1000 it's more like "just think it and you're there". Below 100mph, the 750 can yank as hard as the 1000 just by popping down a gear. It's actually nicer knowing that full throttle is only just barely past the boundary of insanity, instead of way off-the-hook. So the power delivery is more controllable and manageable on the 750. The 1000 at full throttle delivers more than you can handle, always tying up your attention with "throttle management" concerns.

I doubt you'd grow out of the 750. But if down the road you wanted to feel a little more zip and have it feel like a new scary-fast bike all over again, then dropping a tooth in the front is not going to take away much top end, due to the fact that 6th gear on all modern sportbikes is deliberately over-geared tall. You might lose 5mph off the top speed of 175, or you may lose none at all. Big deal. That extra final drive torque is way more valuable pulling off rip-roaring 0-100mph times. Remember that stock gearing was designed by mommy and big brother in the back room committee, to make sure that newbie squids can handle their little rockets.

Finally there is the overall feel of the 750. In most cases it is the funner bike. You are in more control and it is lighter and sportier.

Exhaust Sound: A 600 whines with a high pitch like a girl getting worked over from behind, or a chihuahua getting spanked. A 1000 makes a low growl like a bear but doesn't ever get fully worked up. It's got that exhaust flow restrictor that restricts exhaust flow below 7000rpm, taming the rawness and quieting the sound.

A 750 on the other hand screams like a lion on steroids. Absolutely incredible once you put the end can on it. Best sounding inline-4 I have ever heard BAR NONE. It sounds like a seriously vicious pissed off predator!

Also it's definitely lighter and more agile. The '04 750 is going to break whole new barriers in this department. The 1000 won't see these new improvements until the '05 model comes out.

If I were you, from what you said, I'd get the 750. Remember it's got better power-to-weight ratio than a 2003 R1. Not exactly anything to outgrow any time soon. Plus a few aftermarket mods here and there and you'd get another 10 ponies out of the thing.

That was one of the best posts i have ever read on here. I am just glad it was in response to one of my questions. It is final, i will jsut go with the 750. Now i suppose it is a waiting game, i feel like they are never going to come out. With that post, man, you could sell ice to a damn eskimo. Thanks for all of your help all of you that posted in response to my questions. You guys take care and be safe. Thanks again.

Yeah dude, I was planning on getting an 04 750, but that little write up makes me feel a little more comfortable with that decision, thanks.
