My 93 Wheels are needing new paint or powder coating, and since I really don't like the Swoop look, I decided to look getting some newer lighter wheels. Now my dilema is that I know most wheel manufactures make or made at one time a direct bolt on wheel for the WC bikes IE , PM made the chicanes, Marvic made some, marchesini you get the picture, I am curious if it would be cost effective to get a set of Chicane or try finding some Marvic wheels, or fit a set of newer GSXR wheels IE the 00 and up 750 wheels. ANy opinions...DAN, Duck......

I know where you can find a new old stock three spoke Marvic 5.5"x17" (white)for $250 (same as what I have)....... I also know where you can find a used newer style three spoke Marvic 6.25"x17" (Black) for $350.00 unfortunatly I have no idea where to find a matching front wheel to match them....... otherwise buy the new PM matched set that pops up on ebay every couple of weeks. If I were to spend alot of time on the streets I would tend to lean towards the PM's for their durability.

Theres a comparison article in this months Sport Rider on all the different wheels available......

Ok, I have seen the 250.0. wheel it looks pretty good but that guy never returned my emails...as for the 350.00 wheel... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/crazy.gif I think I might just buy that and run mismatched wheels. I can't seem to let the wallet gnomes cough up the 1400 for these www.czusainc.com (http://www.czusainc.com)

Do the SV 650 and our WC Gsxr's share the same rim dimensions?

KJ, the czusainc wheels are on sale
Anodized finish from US$999.00-
Ni-Cr Plate finish from US$1,299.00-

These anodized ones are sweet.

990 is a 750 top end with a rf 900 bottom end with the 990 piston kit that would run in the rf900...unless i've been mistaken.....one of the guys over here had that set up with a stretch and it was quick.....i put it together just for myself....just upgraded the swingarm and the suspension...but my mechanic told me it's gonna be a fun bike with the front end coming up alot if i don't be careful...i don't know about alot of people doing this setup around....but i know in canada all day long

That should equate to a 907 or there abouts. Depending on the combustion chamber size. shit with right carbs and everything dialed on that Baby should make 145ish RWHP the the front end will like to see the sky.

BTW what kind of trade, all of my go fast goodies are either on the bike or will be real soon.

Jim, not a lot of work to make them fit, the CZ wheels that is, just buy a set for the w/c 1100 and they will bolt right up...*sigh* if only I had the extra cash to drop on rims....

Here's my $ .02. I have street PM's, and if I didn't pay a ridiculously low amount for them, I wouldn't have bothered. They are not all that light (maybe 3-4 lbs/wheel lighter.) and it bugs me that you can't really clean between the spokes. The polished finish demands a once per year polish off the bike. In addition, support from PM for sprockets, etc really sucks.
Buuuuut, my goals for this project are similar to Dan's- create a replica of the hairy monster FUSA bikes from the mid '90's that I can ride on trackdays, with a little racing, and maybe a few Sunday mornings thrown in. For this purpose, PM's are hard to beat.

The only other correct historical thing to do would be vintage mags- like Dan. PM's are just easier to find. The two ways to do vintage mags are find good condition old stuff or find new ones that were also in production back then.

I've seen Kevin Schwantz's 907 that he had built after Suzuki gave him a '93 750 and it's got 5 spoke Marchesini's off his GP bike. This style wheel is still in production- you'd just have to figure out spacers and bearings.

To me, nothing beats that "holy sh$%&U" feeling you get the first time you pick up a mag wheel and realize how much lighter they are.

Finally, let's not fool ourselves- these are old bikes. They are starting to look a little undignified, IMHO, when they are radically updated- Kinda like a 90 year old lady with jet-black hair. They will never be a new bike, no matter how many cool parts we put on them. Let's help them age gracefully.

In my experience, wheels from another year bike are more hassle than aftermarket wheels for almost no gain. The only time I would do those is if I had an old oiler on bias ply technology and need to upgrade to radials cheaply.

HTH!

Hell in a way I really dislike the AirTech SRAD tail on my bike but hell EBSCO raced the bike like this in 96 so for now it's staying on there....... I may eventually buy the Yoshimura replica race tail and paint it to match the 95 paint scheme but thats something that I'm not going to loose any sleep over at this time.

The head shop guy at Austin Sports Cycles built it. Says he knows Kevin pretty well. There's a pic of it up on the wall there. It's painted like a giant Texas flag. Get this- he says he used pistons and rods from an oiler 1100. He also said Kevin didn't like the bike much, so now it's just sitting in a shed full of unobtainium bikes, rusting away. He said Kevin didn't want to sell, last time he asked.

I have mixed feelings about the tail too, but that's the way they raced them from '96-'98 so I guess it's OK. I may get one too.

Aaaaaaaaaaah now that figures......... In the Roadracing World article comparing all year GSXR's Kevin liked the 93 GSXR 750 the least (he was riding basically a stock 93 version comparing it to other year GSXR's that were race preped and sorted). It's only fitting though since the Scwantz GP era sucked up most of the $$$ Suzuki had for it's racing budget.

I know the guy who loaned his stocker for that test, too. He said that Kevin signed the bike, and he sold it on ebay for 6 grand. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif He's got an R6 now, and I used to see him every time I went up Lime Creek Road. He still helps out as an instructor at the Ridesmart track days.

Another funny thing from that article- he said that Spies was all whiney and wanted this and that changed. The Schwantz just bounced the suspension up and down a few times and hopped on, riding faster laps and putting on a pretty good show- backing it in, riding out crossed up, etc.
