Ok I'm not sure if I want to do this or not.
It would seem that the 6 speed trani out of a 95 750
can replace the stock 5 speed trani in the 95 1100.
First question. IS THIS TRUE?
I've also been told that the stock 5 speed is more reliable.
Second question. IS THIS TRUE?
Currently the 2nd gear slips out in my 1100 when any gas is apllied, but stays in fine under decelleration.
This brings me to my third question. Since this obviously needs to be fixed, would I be better off keeping it a 5 speed or should I modify the existing trani to a 6 speed or use a 6 speed out of a 95? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/burnout.gif

It will work, and lots of racers tried it back in the day, but you need to convert your clutch to the 750 setup, including the sprocket and side cover on your engine.

It did not have the best reputation for longevity, but those guys abused the hell out of their gearboxes. There are plenty of 907's running 1100 style power through 6 speeds without probs...I'd bet that it would work OK for somebody who isn't chasing trophies.

I may pick up an old 600 motor just to get the tranny...

I'd go with whatevers cheapest for you, probably just replace your 2nd/5th driven gear and you should be ok. Can't really tell till you get in there though.
I've got a few pics listed of my "94" 1100 gears on the 600 out 1100 in post on this section
I sure hope you can do the "labor " yourself because that was the most expensive.

Id stick with replacing the parts on the bike.

When I had my 2/5 driven gears replaced I noticed that free play and the sloppyness it causes in the shifting mechanism wore alot of other parts in the gear-box.

For longevity and a positive feel to your shifter, it would be wise to look at those parts wether you go to the new tranny or not. So to save money personally I would go with the repair unless the 750's shift forks and cam are sound and the sprocket wear in the tranny well within nominal wear limits.

i looked into this at a time in the past and was told there is a prob with the 6 speed gears hitting the #4 rod at the crank due to the longer crank throw. i am sure cycle concepts will have advice on this, as i think they responded to my post on the same question. you could do a search for it if you need an answer now. please let us know if you find that this is incorrect.

One of the things to look at is if the 1100 can thash second gear what do you think it can do to the narrower 750 gears? A race bike spends more time in the upper gears where torque is alot less. On the street you would be spending more time in the lower gears and while I know that no one here pulls wheelies... Hard launches will take a toll on the 750 trans prettp quick. Also when I was researching this on my own to do to my 88 7-11 years ago I was told by Sims and Rohm that it would not last and when it lets go it usally takes the case with it. Also if you look at the ratios the first gear is lower than the 1100 so firswt gear will take alot of strain while 6th is not much different than the 5th in 1100's

I would like to thank everyone who gave me advice on this. Based on all of your feedback, I'm going to stick with the 5 speed trani. This leaves me with one last question. Before my second gear went out I noticed that the torgue curve didnt meet my needs in the turn. while fist gear is TOO torguey secon doest really pull until around 5g rpm. I'm changing sprockets from 16f and 44b to 15f and 48b. Will this solve my issue and help me to pull it up n 3rd for the well liked highway wheelies? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bounce.gif
