Supposedly it's the 1:1 counterbalancer it uses. Other 1000cc bikes use a 2:1 but the 1:1 has a huge gear on it. The M1 uses a big one also and makes the same whining sound on decel.

is it me or does the lower radiator hose seem really close to the header?

That doesn't sound like a typical four cylinder four stroke sportbike

It doesn't SCREAM like they usually do

More of a ducati DRONE

Thing is, I hate ducatis!

(I know I know, people love them, and on the street I think they can sound good when they're just cruising around, but I have to be honest, I hate the way they sound on the track! Its just this flat...... drone....... *shrugs*)

it has an awesome deep note...like ducati's but without that nasty dry clutch :)
that new R1 sounds pretty sick.

That thing sounds pretty freaking cool. we'll see what they do

As a mechanic, the tech is cool as hell on one hand. But DAMN my ear-brain connection is SCREAMING fouled plug. Any of you ever had a I-4 running on three cylinders you know what i mean :lol

Here's from this weekend's press launch. Revs up super fast, like a 2 stroke.

Nice vid and 'weird' sound.
Interesting stuff this Crossplane 'big bang' tecnhology. Will we see the other brands follow you think?

^lol.....

Its big bang :scratch

I feel ya though :lol. I initially THOUGHT it was when it first came out, until I read further. Seems a lot of people still dont get the difference. Big bang wont make for a good "street" bike yet, not reliable enough from what I gather.

i still like it, even though it sounds like it has a fouled plug lol. the aftermarket exhaust look worlds better too. after looking at the tacometer in action that sucker looks like it will get up and scoot as well. ben spies put in some pretty mean lap times on that thing that's for sure. i'm a suzuki kinda guy but i hope it performs really well in street trim. i guess i am just used to my k1 1k, by the time i get to 4k rpms the bike is acting like a pure nut lol and with the r1's it would not make that same kind of rush until five thousand rpms later. i could see myself owning the r1 probably just to change up a bit and definitely for the sound factor lol. i dunno.

Happy now....lol

finally they put the mic in the right place, by the exhaust :drool
I think suzuki has become too complacent, we need more innovation

"Especially with the late arrival of the rules, we kinda had to change some things last minute so there was a lot of hustling required, fed-ex'd it pretty well this month, from yamaha (laughs)" :lol

SDMS......Big Piston Fork front end...... not innovative :dunno. Under slung exhaust for ahwile (although they had to go back away from it, and they werent first..... buel beat them to the punch)

yeah it is a repost. but this time i picked up on something the commentator said. at around 1:14 he mentioned, "...the engine is big news. It has the same power and torque as before..." Is that right? Same power and torque as before?

Actually it's less. The US model has restrictors in the mufflers for EPA noise regulations, so we get one that is 6-7hp less. US Yamaha has dyno'd 2 bone stock ones and they were pulling mid 140s. The ones in the UK are pulling 150-155. Good news is the exhaust is the first thing to go so it shouldn't be a problem.

www.motorcycleusa.com, look for the R1 first impression review.

Ok....so when these guys are saying that it rockets out of corners, revs so quick, i'm shaking after a ride.....it has the same power. The point of the new engine design is drivability right? Not so much that it is a more powerful bike. But then again, being able to get on the gas sooner coming out of a corner is always a definite plus. hmm...will be interesting to see.

I want to hear a review of the 2009 GSX-R1000....c'mon already!

sounds cool....with those aftermarket pipes. Which do you think will hurt your ass more, the heat coming off the undertail exhaust or the price of dual undertail exhaust??
