: ever removed the upper tree on a 93 750? seized!!
gottspeed 11-15-2003, 06:01 AM im looking for any tips on removing the top tree on my 93 750rw.
it seems like everything is removed but the middle threaded rod seems a bit corroded.
tried tapping it up with a hammer and lifting it too both while spreading one clamp at a time with a flat head screwdriver.
any help would be appriciated,
thanks guys
Bobbychet 11-15-2003, 10:26 AM make sure your clip- http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gifons are unbolted too and use 2 screwdrivers!

After you loosen the bolt on both sides that clamp the fork tubes remove the bolts. I have found it easier not to have the bolts even laying in the threads. And make sure you take Bobby's advice and get the two 10mm headed bolts undone on the underside of the top clamp. I guess they put them there so if the clip on bolts would fail they would hold them in position. After you've done this it should come of pretty easy. If it's a little siezed up spray some of that bolt breaker spray on the top nut and let it get between the nut and the shaft.
Good luck!

gottspeed 11-15-2003, 10:40 PM Evverything is off... Except for the ignition.. That has to stay it looks like.
Ill try the bolt-breaker spray though, because I still cant get it off. Is that like wd-40?
Bobbychet 11-16-2003, 04:27 AM wedge the two screw drivers and pry upwards under the triple close to the or where the Chrome nut was that has the fuel line running into it. Be careful not to rupture the plastic grommet though. Work on one side and then the other. Mine was alittle rusty under there but not seized like yours.
utp216 11-16-2003, 04:49 AM The bolt breaker stuff is kinda like wd-40 but a little better. Try to spray it around the openings for the fork tubes also. You might need a plastic/rubber mallet to knock the thing loose. I'm thinking your clamp must of never been off the bike to be stuck on this damn tight! If there is a way you can support the whole front of the bike with the wheel off the ground you can bang on the steering stem with the mallet to. Just remember the whole front fork assm. is going to drop down.
gottspeed 11-16-2003, 08:36 AM Thanks for the tips.
I worked at it a bit more today and still had no luck, even after banging all sorts of ways and shining everything up to get the corrosion off.
Its easy to see the stem and the bracket are a little bonded with corrosion.
If I still have no luck prying with screw-drivers or with the bolt-breaker, would medium heat applied evenly to the area be pushing my luck? I was thinking id gently expand the area with a propane torch while the bike is lifted by the bracket slightly.
FastCat 11-16-2003, 09:33 AM Heat might be OK as long as you remove the fuel-tank to the next county first...
I'd use a gear-puller if it were me...
gottspeed 11-16-2003, 02:00 PM the bike is stripped down to the bones right now so nothing will start on fire.
christ its on there good. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif
Bobbychet 11-16-2003, 08:03 PM Did you spray the shit out of it with WD-40?
gottspeed 11-16-2003, 10:21 PM ive been hitting it with WD every day since I got the nut off, but its pooling up and running off naturally.
Unfortunately it seems as though ALL of it is pooling up and running over the corrosion and onto the rubber thing exposing all the cracks on it.. rrr...
anyway, i tried that prying technique but it seems like ill break the rubber before the aluminum comes off.
my old man is a welding examiner with 20 yrs behind him welding and he seems to think expanding it is the best solution, he laughed when i suggested suspending the bike from the clamp so it would drop out though.
ill be sure to update.
Bobbychet 11-17-2003, 02:00 AM yeah have the old man help out on this one and if he helps break it he might feel bad and pitch in some cash too! Let us know if you need some part numbers I.E. the rubber gasket.
Good Luck http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
Bobbychet 11-17-2003, 09:31 AM Well? did you try to get it off again?
(and is the old man helping?) http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
FastCat 11-17-2003, 09:42 AM If you haven't already removed it, the gauges are secured to a bracket that's bolted on to the underside of the triple-clamp. there are four 10mm bolt-heads under there that you can *just* squeak a 1/4" drive ratchet in to get loose/removed. Once that's out of the way, I'm serious about using the gear/flywheel-puller...
gottspeed 11-17-2003, 09:44 AM oh no, he lives on the other side of the city.
this will be an ongoing project because im in no hurry to have a perfectly tuned and sound machine sitting there all couped up. i cant ride it for another 4 months or so anyhow.
ill make sure to update and maybe get some pics of my stock wp up.
you know, i think it looks equally as cool with all the plastic and brackets off. sort of like an intelligent hardley.
