I work offshore in the Gulf of Mexico, and am usually out of phone range during a good portion of my 28 day hitch. Well i wake up last night to start work at midnight and see that i have two emails, which is not unusual as the gf likes to keep in touch with me. Well i use the satellite phone and get in touch with her at right around 1am, because i can tell that something is seriously wrong. I was right.

We have two dogs that are more like our children then our pets. Captain Noodle, who we got from my mom's dog after she had puppies in June of 2007, and maggie, who we got from the pound about six months ago so Noodle would have someone to play with while my gf was at work and I was offshore.

I get her on the phone and she is sobbing almost uncontrollably. Turns out that after she got home from work at 6:30, she let the dogs outside, they did their business, then she let them back in and went upstairs to take a shower. Well, Maggie, a 3 year old pitbull, can open the french doors that lead outside, which for some reason were unlocked. She got the doors opened and both dogs took off outside. My gf came down 10 minutes later and realized they were both gone, and immediately went outside to search for them. After over an hour, she found Maggie standing in the middle of the road about 1/4mile from the house. For some reason, she would not come when she was called and was resisting my gf's attempts to get her into the car. She finally did and my gf continued searching for Noodle. After another hour, she called my mom to come and help her, as she lives 5 minutes away.

My mom came up to the house 10 minutes later holding a small pouch made out of a towel, crying her eyes out. She had found him on the side of the same road, in the same area where my gf found Maggie. he was only 1 1/2 years old. My mother said that it appears that he died instantly, as he was right on the side of the road, just into the tall grass. Right next to the spot where Maggie refused to leave.

We got him to keep my gf company while i was at work, because it is tough for her because i am gone so much. He was a noisy little bastard, would wake you up by standing on your chest and barking in your face. he would chew stuff up and pee on the trashcan and beg without fail, but we loved him unconditionally. he was with my gf every single day since the day that we got him in July of 07 when he was 6 weeks old. he would wake up with her in the morning and would go to sleep on her pillow behind her head at night. We would take him to the beach or to the park and just let him be a dog, even though he was so much more then that. He was like my son and i cant even be there to hold him one more time.

Captain Noodle - June 16, 2007 to November 13, 2008 Enjoy the yards and trees in doggy heaven little guy, we will miss you.

Thanks guys, i really appreciate all the support. It is really tough for me because i 1500 miles away and couldnt be there.

He is being cremated this weekend. Sure wish i could have seen the little bugger.

Maggie is obviously very depressed. She refused to get out of bed this morning. My gf said that she wouldnt eat, wouldnt play, and wouldnt go outside. She isnt injured or anything, but she has always had serious anxiety issues that have increased when she is alone. Noodle was a great playmate for her.

RIP Captin Noddle. I feel your loss in many way's. When I deployed to Iraq back in March, my wife moved up into the country with her mom. We had 2 pit bull's. On may 9th(my 25th birthday) I called my wife and she was crying uncontollably. She told me my male pit Buddy had gotten out of the fence and had wandered away. When she went to go find him, she heard a gunshot. When she ran toward's the shot, she came upon buddy dead, with a 12 guage slug in his head. Some ignorant farmer had shot him and he wasn't even on the bastard's property. Being 1600 miles away in Iraq made it very hard to deal with. And I still feel the loss greatly. So to Captin Noodle and Buddy R.I.P, it's hard to deal with from so far away.

Yeah, he always did lie like that. Guess it kept his little nuts cooler or something. :dunno

He had a personality like no other dog i have ever met. This sure sucks.
