If it clears the brake-arm and chain, then yeah, that's probly the widest tire that will. I have a 6" wheel on my 1100K and I can't fit the 190 on it due to the chain-clearance. ...in fact, mine occasionally just *barely* touches the chain now and that's running a 180 on the 6" wheel.

The bike will handle better with a 180 on the 5.5" wheel - but you already knew that, right?

you don't want to go wider than the 180, it'll slow your handling

Yeah, my PM's came w/ a 190 rear (on a 6" wheel) on them, and I tried it out just for grins. It sucked. 180 is ok. 170 is even better. There are a few reasons for this:

1. 190's are designed to go on rims wider than 5.5". They get a "pinched" profile when you put them on something less than 6"

2. Our bikes are big, heavy pigs that need all the help they can get in the direction changing department. A wider tire is a step in the wrong direction.

3. If you NEED the extra grip off the corner that 10mm extra tread gives, then Suzuki's racing department should GIVE you a new GSXR1K with a 190 already attached. Problem solved.

If it's about looks, I don't know anyone who can tell the diff between a 180 and a 190 just bike looking at them, unless they are right next to each other.

Squeezing the tire on the wheel is possible, sure... but it may or may not actually fit in the bike without rubbing the chain, brake-arm, or both. ...nevermind the way that the carcass will be mis-shaped from being fitted on the narrower-than-intended wheel.

Here - I took these pictures yesterday just before the site went bye-bye... this should show you exactly what I'm talking about... keep in mind that this is a 6" wheel, but with only a 180/55/17 tire mounted on it:

Yeah, the difference will be in the handling department. You will suffer cornering ability with the 190.
