If you don't ask questions Quig your learning curve will flatten. I thought it was a good question.

Followed a kid on a GSXR1000 one day through a corner on the track. Watched his rear tire step out about 8-10in for about 30ft. He ended up on his head. Chased him down after the session to see if he was OK. Looked at his tires. He had a Michelin front and a Bridgestone rear both street tires. I didn't feel sorry for him. Just don't want to see it happen again.

And you think it was cuz it was from his tires and not the fact that he was hamfisting a 1k?

It's possible. It's just that at where it happened at in the corner it's not a place where one would start their drive. You're maintaining constant throttle to keep your corner speed up. It's just one of those corners you'd have to see. He seemed to be doing ok up till that point. Note: I've not ridden a 1k on the track so I don't know how they feel. But, I don't think his tire choice helped him. Just a rider that got in way over his head too quickly.

I also agree with you on the "Fast" street squids trying to run in the fast group and creating problems for those who can get around a track. I've heard about some of the events that go on back east. They are packed. I don't know your tracks(tight or wide open). The best track in AZ gives you alot of places to get around people safely.

Personally, I don't know enough about street rubber to trust them on the track.

If thereis a bad problem with traffic in the race group one of two things are happening.

#1 the promoter is not enforcing the class breakdowns and is letting people in the race group that don't belong there. That needs to be addressed with the promoter. Ours will step up the plate and knock the guys down a group.

#2 you are fast but can't pass well.

fuggin PDG why you little furry italian midgets always gotta pick fights just joking really it may come acorss as being an asshole but thats just how you east coast guys are but to be honest I haven't a clue what street tires are like on the track I didn't even run em on the street not cause they were "race tires " but because they were dirt cheap as take offs btw pirelli /metzler gets my vote I have yet to see on come apart like some dunflops Ive seen plus you get to hear lame shit from Jim Allen about how the rider was inexperienced at the track I will never buy dunlops until I belive what the distributers tell you about their products every time I have seen anyone locally have issues with dunlop they get lame excuses why and our michlin dealer will atr least try to get you credit for a defective tire

Ok, so PDG is coming acrossed as an asshole for saying that he probably hamfisted his 1000? (In response to the last response from the guy in CO) Strange... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif

Anyway, why I quoted this guy is to make a point. He had to be throttling up to get the rear to step out so greatly. So, sure it could have been that the rear was shit (Bridgestones http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/rolleyes.gif) but, it probably would have happened even if he had good race compound tires on. He hamfisted. It's very common for street and small cc racers to do on big bikes that they aren't used to.

Oh yeah? We have PDG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!

But, he's an ass so, I guess you really win afterall. Lots of love to PDG - I am on your side, brother. I think BMF is too, but he has to play politically correct guy on this board.

Oh, since BMF locked the other thread before I could respond - Hey Quig, you'll probably see me out there sooner than later. I actually am pondering bringing my new 1000 out to Willow or Laguna for a track day since I will be out in CA in January. Maybe you can tell me to fuck off then or call me names if you see me, eh?

I know, I probably misquoted you again and since my intelligent level is nowhere near yours, I am forced to throw in the towel and call it quits - you win. My brain is on overload since I cannot seem to read all that well and understand insinuations like you have expressed.

Don't mind me - I'm just a dumb-ass... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

By the way, I am serious about helping in any way. I really do try and give out good info from my experiences on and off the track. So, if you need anything, let me know - suspension ideas, motor work, etc. That is if you can realize that on boards like this, people can actually argue and not really be pissed off and then turn around and answer legit questions. Not questions like "what pipe makes my bike faster" or "which mod can I do to my street bike to make it wheely easier" - you know legit shit like which map, what ride height, what tire and why, what can I do to prevent this or that at a track day, etc., etc.

Trust me, I am not a dumb-ass as you might suspect - I can actually hold my own - I am just not too keyboard freindly.

Oh, by the way, nice use of the word "F@#k" a million times. Nice http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/punk.gif

Lizard I actually like PDG but at time his way of saying things rubs people the wrong way but as far as I can tell if you can look beyond the smartass part of him he's just fine plus he keeps it interesting and says what he thinks I like that in a person http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif and no I wasn't saying that he was an asshole for saying the guy was hamfisted on a 1k ( most I'e seen are afraid of the right grip but thats a whole different story)

actually, since its a 420 tire (16.5") its not really any wider but taller cuz the surface area gets pulled in and becomes a surface area for when yer leaned over.
