: different style left hand to right hand riding
rotamonkey 08-02-2008, 12:30 AM Do any of you guys notice that you have a different turning style on your left hand side to your right hand side. I have been scubbing in my new rear and noticed that I had a 1/4 inch strip on my right side and none on my left side then I looked at my front and its almost the opposite. the front right side is worn to the edge and the left side has a tiny strip.
Ive got a bad right knee which might have something to do with my body position into right handers.
Im confident in my riding and definately dont think it slows me down but do other people get this.
MAD_ARAB 08-02-2008, 12:40 AM I'm the same way. I believe it's because I have to hold the bike down through a turn and it seems easier when it isn't on my throttle hand. I need to try pulling up on the opposite handle and see if it helps. But it's not a natural instinct so it may be hard to do.:cheers
redneckrider 08-02-2008, 01:45 AM considering that every one of my crashes has been in a right hander, i would say that i am much more comfortable taking lefts. My riding style is the exact same in each direction though, at least i think so. :dunno
GSXR CHRIS 08-02-2008, 01:52 AM I think it's the position of the throttle and the awkwardness of working the throttle when it's close to the tank. :dunno
rotamonkey 08-02-2008, 09:11 AM Ahh good stuff so im not the only one. Im gonna try to get to one of those cornering schools at phillip Island soon. See what the pros say. Other than that Im just gonna try to ride with my weight further back in the right handers and see if I can shake the habit.

It's closer to the tank in a left hander. Countersteering.:shifty
Beaker 08-02-2008, 05:50 PM and either way, if you are going fast enough to get anywhere close to the edge of the tire... it isn't going to be close to the tank at all really...

i was referring to slow tight right turns :)
grtfast 08-05-2008, 06:03 PM I don't know if I look different but it sure feels different and I think that this is due to the aformentioned left grip fixed / right grip movable issue. I don't think I hang off of the bike quite as far on the right either because it makes it harder to control the throttle (at least is feels that way).
On a dirt bike most people tend to turn left better as well, and I think that it is for the same reason
tx_gixxer 08-08-2008, 02:19 AM we drive in the right lane, so a right turn is a greater angle, allowing the predominantly right-handed throttle wicker the opportunity to "twist it" more often feeling more comfortable at greater angles on the right side.. left turns are [reasonably slower] cautious cross-traffic high-angle leans for a righty..
mx597turbo 01-10-2009, 02:33 PM I do turn better to the left on the dirtbike because I can still control the rear brake with my right foot. On a right hander, your right foot is out and you can only use your front brake through the turn.
On the street, I also feel better turning left, but I don't know exactly why.

what do you use to scrub your tires with?
MAD_ARAB 01-22-2009, 08:32 PM what do you use to scrub your tires with?
Riding is what scrubs the tire.:cheers
i think it has something to do with the ergonomics of your clip-ons. for example. you lean off your bike to the left. your right wrist is nice and straight with your arm. now lean to the right and your throttle has to pivot pretty bad. so you dont exactly have full control when it's bent like that. so i think sub conciously you try to straighten it out to gain that control. in return, you dont lean as much. i do it too and i hate it. i'm not any slower in right turns. just my lean angle is different and not to mention the look of your tires is enough piss you off.
rotamonkey 01-25-2009, 10:16 PM I had this problem a long time ago but guess alot of people get it. I have started riding alot better these days Ive been running pilot road 2's but Ill never get em again rippin them to pieces. less grip and mine hardly lasted longer than the powers. once I got riding with my mates in some hard twisties no problem and definately no strips but I still do it. Like you guys say it must a problem with the throttle but I also think its a mental thing. If you think about while your riding it can put you off so I dont think about it at all anymore and just ride hard. If your using less tyre it means you have more lean angle available so dont worry about it and just ride harder. but maybe it was my balls against the tank hehehe stompgrips really are good for somethin.
