: Too much oil?

The other day I overfilled my engine by about a cup because I started my bike in cold weather for a couple seconds before checking the oil. So the thick lube got stuck all around the engine instead of down in the pan when i checked.

There is a small oil leak on my bike that will be fixed shortly, and this is why I topped it off, and decided to let it seep out when i put a bit too much in.

Anyway, ive been noticing slight bogging both at high and low RPM and im wondering if the slightly excessive oil level would do this.

Also, is there any damage to be done from an extra cup in there? Im wondering since I believe it has an effect on performance.

Any input would be appriciated, thanks.

I don't think an extra cup of oil would do that unless your talking about one HUGE cup! I put an extra quart of oil in once by mistake and it didn't change anything. I noticed when I checked the sight windows there was oil past the window in the case. I drained some out and went on from there.

one cup shouldnt make much difference. way too much might blow past the crankcase ventalation into the air box and make smoke. oil is cheap drain it all start again drip or not, only fill to the mark on the sight glass. technically too much oil could cause the crank journals too not be able too properly fling the excess oil from them causing a build up in windage pressure in the cases. this could cause a decrease in preformance. kinda like the crank was running submerged in oil. drain it start again.
