i recently went out on a ride to blackpool which is about 100 miles from where i live.when riding back my pal signalled me to pull over as there was coolant spewing from the overflow expansion tank.at a closer look i topped up the fluid with motul coolant and now the bike heats rapidly and after about 20 miles the prob re occurs.there is no mayo in the oil viewing glass but im no mechanic, any suggestions.

99% of the time, it's the thermostat !

You could tell us what bike you own...I assume it's a SRAD, but size/year?

maby theres trapped air in the coolant system and you need to "burp" it out. or like said above, the thermostst is bad.

this is how my manual states to burp the coolant system. fill coolant system full, keepo radiator cap off. start bike and let run. watch temp gauge. rev motor to about 5000rpms, do this about 3x. put rad cap back on. and let the fan cycle thru about 3x. shut off bike. let cool. remove rad cap and top off coolant level. replace rad cap and run bike for a copuple more fan cycles. shut bike off and let cool. open rad cap and top off if needed.
done.

carefull not to burn yourself with the hot coolant. i do this 2x a yr, before winter i add coolant, and after winter to put water wetter in for track usage.

good luck man. im off to pack and head out to the race track. woo hoo

just becareful and not get burned. take your time and it will work out. the reason why it said to blip the throttle to about 5000, as its gets the flow of coolant/fluid moving to remove any air bubbles.

followed the instructions and arter went for a test ride.upon opening the bike up the temp stayed pretty good.mine is in 'c and normally runs at about 95 though my pals runs at about 88.thats roughly about 220.is that a normal running temp?whilst out on the ride the coolant did not overflow but in traffic the temp did get up to 100'c.before the coolant was overflowing at about 97'c so seems to have solved that.just worried bout mine running hotter than my pals still.any advice.hope u ad a gud time at the track demon.

had a fakin blast!!!!! rode the shit outa my power races. lol time for slicks next :)

anyways, if you followed the instructions i gave you earlier, you should be good to go unless you have any other underlying issues (ie: thermostat going bad, water pump going bad, clogged radiator, or more air in the coolant system). imo, normal riding temps should be around 200*f in city traffic, if in stop and go, it will reach 220*f as when the fans should kick on. cruising on the freeway or hitting the back roads going a nice rate of speed, the temp should be around 185*f-190*f

I have 2004 GSXR 600, how do you get to the part where you can add coolant because my bike is over heating???
