Hey Guys,

Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

2001 GSXR 1000
30,000miles
Oil pressure light comes on solid as the FI light comes on solid too. The top end of the motor is loud as if it is not getting any oil.
:wtf
History: The last I rode it was on Memorial Day weekend when I highsided it at the local trackday (Putnam Park Indiana). The bike (http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190426#) was loaded on the trailer and not started until yesterday. Yesterday, I fixed all the damage from the wreck and installed a new OEM oil pan as the old one has had the drain bolt removed and torqued one too many times over it life and was leaking oil.

When I started the bike yesterday, it regestered no oil pressure. It has never done this before. My buddy came over with his 03 GSXR600 and we swapped the oil pressure sensors, his bike regestered oil pressure, mine still did not!

I pulled the oil pan again today to check the oil pressure regulator and suction screen, they appeared to be normal. Reinstalled the pan and still no oil pressure; then pulled the clutch and got to the oil pump. I have now put my electic drill (No Drill Bit guys) on to the oil pump shaft, spun the oil pump, and It doesnt appear to be pumping oil as I am not able to see any oil coming out anywhere around the crank nor do I hear it drippin down from the top end assuming it had pumped the oil.

Attached is the pic.

I removed the oil pump, it looks good with no gouges in the gerotor and appears to be tight. Does anyone have any idea on what the problem is. It simply will NOT suck and pump the oil through out the engine (http://www.gixxer.com/forums/showthread.php?t=190426#).:scratch

Any help at all would be much appreciated! Thanks, Wad

Hi There,
This may sound stupid and i`m not trying to suggest your stupid but if you think about what youv`e just stated then your next step has to be trying a new oil pump i mean you said it your self the pump with a drill attached doesn`t pump anything hope you sort it.

Did You Try Turning The Pump The other Way ??

pack the pump with grease and try it...some times when the rotors wear a little and its been stood they just move air rather than suck fluid...grease takes up any inperfections till its oiled itself up...if the grease doesnt hydraulic it up you have a shagged pump or leak on ur tube joint.

Sounds like you have an air lock of sorts.. Try spinning off the oil filter slightly and starting the bike, obviously you may make a small mess but you'll get your bike going again.. I've heard of this on 05-06 zx6r's on oil changes.. They drain oil and the pickup drains and air gets in there and the pump, fill it up with oil and the air gets trapped and the pump doesnt push air so thats where it stays. What your doing when spinning the filter off is bleeding that air out and allowing the oil to get to the pump again.. If your not keen on starting a bike up with the filter slightly off then seek an engine rebuilder as they have a pressurized oil system that pumps oil into newly rebuilt engines to "prime" them.. Just a few suggestions, let us know what happens!.

ps- this is along the same lines as monkey is saying, something has to prime the pump..

I had almost the exact same problem with my 06 gsxr 600. Oil light on after a wreck. I cracked the filter slightly and started the bike till oil started gushing out. Light turned off, problem solved.

take the pump off and puor some il in it then reinstall it.Then do the drill trick. it'll still take 2-3 minutes but oil should come out of the output shaft

I know this sounds obvious and pretty stupid but did you pour oil back in after the pan job? Maybe the oil check valve ball got stuck or out of whack, or a clogged oil filter? When you are checking the oil pump, do you have the drill spinning in the correct direction? I dunno im out of ideas.....

My 06 1k is doing the same thing.. A little noisy on start up and the engine oil light is coming on. It was layed over about a month ago so I am going to try the oil filter trick and see if it does it.. I hope it does!
