Ok ok ok,
quick one for ya.....should you ride a motard like a dirt bike or street bike. Or only like a dirt bike in tight turns. I am referring to putting your foot out.

it is all up to what you are comfy with, but if you watch a pro supermoto race, you will see the guys riding like they are on dirt bikes in all but the fastest corners. Having ridden dirt, street, and supermoto, I would say that running hard into a turn sitting up over the bars is way more confidence inspiring that hanging off of the inside of the bike, but that is probably because I raced mx for years and years, and have been on a track on a sportbike 3 times.

That's what I figure. I feel much better hitting a turn like you explained.

I'm not sure if the simple answer "do whatever is more comfortable for you is appropriate" although it does seem to make sense, and it's not so much about whether you choose to stick a knee out or stick your leg out.

Motocross bike are turned in the exact opposite way streetbikes are. On an MX bike you sit up more and push the bars down towards the ground. This practice on a streetbike is all wrong and bad and leads to a lowside if you are not careful. So I wonder if it's the geometry and characteristics of the particular bike that you are on that dictates this more than the tires and ground surface that you are riding on.

If it's the former then this is the preferred and better method obviously (and again, it is the style incorporated by most of the fast guys).

spl, if you will notice, the upper picture seems to be a much tighter / slower turn, thus making the dirtbike style turn more effective, where as in the lower picture the guy looks to be coming out of a fast long sweeper, and is in more of a traditional road race position.

when I was at jennings a few weeks ago, a couple of fast guys were there on SM's and were dirtbikin' it in the tight stuff, and staying more centered and tucked on the fast bits.

I can't remember which one it was, but in one of the x games Ben Bostrom rode and him and Mcgrath were battling and bostrom was backin it in dirt bike style, but with his knee out instead of his whole leg, whereas Jeremy had his leg out, and bostrom beat him. I am sure that fast guys can go fast either way, but nowadays if you watch a SM race, the style is pretty well defined.

I think he is crashing, and about to have a bad case of swivel knee.
