Ok Boys and Girls, this is the official Thread for you to post up the banner you want to submit for the contest. Incase you missed the details in the Announcements here they are :

1. This contest is only for the top Gixxer Site Banner.
2. The top 5 banners will be chosen by us, then those 5 will be placed in a poll for the rest of you (guys and girls) to vote on.
3. The winning banner will be used as an alternate skin for Gixxer.com
4. The Size of the banner should be about 900x113

Any questions? Just PM me and I will reply to you with the answers as well as edit them into this post.

I think it would be more rewarding if it were the default site banner. Not an alternate that someone has to choose :dunno.

That and it would make the members feel a bit more like "our old home" rather than "Vertical scopes house" :thumbup

Just had a question . . . would the new banner be integrated into the Dark layout . . . or a new layout completely? (cause I'd like it to part of the Dark layout, since its old school) :D

I think Offering more options is the best root. Allow people what skin they want to use. After all it is being designed by the members, so choice is the main purpose here.

I think the white layout should be the alternate color as well. The dark blue has been GDC's true colors forever

I think VS is just reluctant to change away from the cookie cutter image...... but that is just my opinion.

When Brian asked me to design something for him, I did using an overall dimension that I grabbed from a screen shot. For whatever reason, He could not implement it.

For now I dont think its really necessary to talk about needing the banner in pieces and such for implementation, but the overall dimensions are are pretty important and should probably be added to the first post.

I have always considered the scan lines mostly his signature on his sig pics....... but then again he did this version of mine (as well as a few others) and this one has no scan lines :scratch.

I dig Easy$$ work though.

oh i like it to, it does look clean.

Its not even scan lines...its a carbon pattern just scaled down pretty small.

Hey rob$$, on the timeline one, what do you think about making the background have some color to it. Maybe make it a bluish or something.

I really dig it, and the bikes in color would look bad (im sure that is why you made it greyscale) But once I ligned it up with the others, it looks TOO black and white IMO.

Just a thought. The history of it, and it having the slogan in it appeals to me though.

Are we 100% sure on the image dimension size that was given?? The height seems correct but the length seems to short.

The current banner is setup such that the middle will 'stretch' infinitely no matter how large your browser window is. Ive stretched it across my dual monitors and it just repeats the checker pattern in the middle with the two bikes staying on their respective ends.

I cant really see that being feasible with the designs that have been submitted so far.

Rob$$, I wondered the same :dunno. Unless they are going to make it static like the "old" GDC was, so that the banner is above the forum.

I definitely wouldn't consider it one of my best works thats for sure. It was thrown together pretty shitily (new word) if I do say so myself.

Id suggest showing them an example of an entry and ask them if it will work. If it is indeed setup as you say, then only 3 out of the entries so far will work.

If its imperative that it stretches, than the middle area needs to be designed to accommodate that feature. Basically rendering all but 3 submissions useless.
