i know yall are familiar with the notorius stator problem. Well i have a 2001 gsxr with only 5000 miles on it. I thought that i wouldnt have a problem on it until it had around 8000 mi but i guess i was way off. this bike started to die on me recently. Ofcurse i checked the battery and it wasnt that. Then i decided hmm i will check the stator, My luck one strand of the copper on one coil is broken and the other one is burnt. so i told my self that its probably that. Now would there be any other problems with the rectifieer or voltage regulator, I have jump started my bike four times since this has happen so i could get home...help me out fighters

replace the stator and there is a test for the regulator in the manual. It is probally ok. I push started mine several times before I replaced the stator and everything else checks out fine.

i just replaced my stator 4 months ago on my 01 gixxer6... i had 2 roasted coils on my stator. there's been quite a few posts (complaints) about the stator on here. good luck to u bro... if you're going buy one, make sure you order it from ron ayers (http://ronayers.com) don't forget to order the magneto cover gasket either.....

I've had one go... heard of plenty, plenty more also. It's my belief that the stators just don't hold up well, in general, to jarring abuse. I could be wrong... but it seems to me that most of these premature failures happen to bikes that are abused a bit - crashed, stunted (even without crashing), etc.

If you've identified the problem for sure as being the stator, there isn't much help to offer, except to say replace it. Ron Ayers will have the best prices on one. You'll also want to order the case cover gasket, as more than likely this will need to be replaced when you pull the cover.

here's an alternate source for replacement electrical parts:
http://www.electrexusa.com/

i haven't tried them, and haven't heard of anyone who has. their prices aren't much lower than the oem parts from ron ayers (actually it seems they're slightly more expensive), but what interests me is that their parts are covered by a one year warranty. that's a year longer than what suzuki offers.

edit note: they don't seem to list a replacement stator for the gsxr750.

Hey SomeJeffGuy (or anyone else)...

Do you know anything about rewinding stators, and whether this could/would be an economical solution to fix these stators?

I figured that if I had another one go, I'd check into the possibility. But since I haven't... I haven't http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gif

Hey Leanangle,
When mine went I had the option of a new stator $300+NZD or getting mine 'rewound' supposedly 'good as new' $100 NZD,. that's a third of the price of replacing with OEM. Not sure what the prices are like in US but I'd say You'd be saving some $$. Lucky I had a spare in my spare engine which was/is fine.

i don't see why rewinding wouldn't be doable, or more economical. an automotive generator shop might be able to help with that.
