: Fuel pump problem?

Need to know if anyone has had this problem. At a trackday a while back I would run the first lap the bike pulled fine down the straights. Second lap it would struggle to pull to roughly 12-13000rpms. Third lap and on the bike would start to struggle at 7000 and not pull at all above 9000. This happened every session I ran.
Is it reasonable to assume that the "High speed filter" is gummed up with crap and starving the bike for fuel as the session progressed? The bike has had Nutec and VP Ultimate 4 fuels run through it during race weekends and usually just pump gas or a mixture of pump/race fuels for trackdays.
If the filter is the problem, is there an effective way to clean or disassemble it? We ran a solvent through it and had a reddish residue flush out. Any ideas?

yep, sounds like the fuel filter to me.

Pull the tank and pull the pump from the tank.

Undo the two ground screws on the sides of the pump and the 3 lock nutz holding the wires on.

Pull the pump assembly apart, remove the plastic snap cap and filter. Clean or replace filter. Reassemble--make sure you get the lil o-ring in the fuel pump correct or it won't work.

Thanks guys. I've replaced the pump. Also did a complete rebuild on the motor. I haven't put it back on the track yet so I didn't know what to expect. Didn't want to waste my time while getting pulled by 600's and SV650's.
