: Do I need a Valve adjustment?

Alrite you gixxer gods,

I need some help here. I have a 600 GSXR 2002 with TRE, empty can, and a PCIII. I recently hit 7,300 miles. Now the bike feels week, I remember before I would notice a big power change when the RPM would hit about 6-7 but now it feels like shit, I get almost the same power but at 8-10 RPM. I just don’t feel that almost scary feeling because of the power.

The ideal was dancing as well so I took it to get the throttle body sync but that didn’t fix it. It helped but it still feels week.

Oh when they did the sync #1 cylinder was 2 bars off, so he adjusted them.

I have changed my oil and air filter and when I took it in for the throttle body sync I had them change my spark plugs. They looked ok BTW. They told me that #1 was 40 deg cooler.

The bike doesn’t sound like before (2k miles) when it’s at idle I can hear it. It’s not smooth, almost like I have cams or something done. They said they think I need a valve adjustment but I haven’t hit 8k miles plus they want to charge me about $250 to do it. Dose anyone else have these problems? Any comments or advice is greatly appreciated.

Check your TPS and so if it off..
On the left side of your subframe there is a white connecter with a rubber cap on it..Feed it threw to your truck or under you rear fender..Take the cap off and you should see two female prungs.. Find a paper clip on use it to jump the two plungs, this buts your bike in dealer mode. Now start your bike and look at you led screen. You should see a "-C" and a "00". The "C" is your TPS and the "00" is your code reading.
The "C" has a line in front of it like this "-C" or like this "_C" or up higher. You want that line to be in the middle of the C. If it's not then you have to readjust it..
Your codes should be "00" if there is a different number there, then you have a problem and have to find out what the code means.
You can do a search on this forum for the TPS for more information.

First, what's an "empty can"? I'm assuming that means you gutted it?
Second, What's the "ideal"? Did you mean "idle"?

You have 7300 miles now and your bike is scheduled for a valve adjustment at 8000 miles. Mileage is a recommended maintenance point. If you beat on the bike and maybe not take the best care of it, your bike might be ready for the valve service. From your description, "the empty can" may be a factor in the sluggish performance. You said you have a PC3. Was it tuned for the current "empty can"?

I'd say the mileage at this point is irrelevant. You should just get the service done as it's going to be due very soon anyway. You'll be able to answer your own question this way. $250 for that service does not seem unreasonable. They gotta get invasive and that takes time., and time ain't cheap!

how many times have i told u to get a full system man... lol whats up edy.. u didnt tell me they synch'ed ur tb's and that sluggis feeling is b/c u dont have a correct map for your setup.. i know u didnt take it to a dyno so basically running a base map which doesnt compensate for the extra airflow leaving the can since you gutted it... and by the way its not that gutted so it shouldnt make that much of a diff... play with the map a little and youll get diff results and like they said above check the TPS and made sure the bar is in the middle of the C00... if u have any q's call me up.. peace...

Your just getting used to the bikes power. The throttle syc wont really give you more power as such

well, first off this is the wrong forum. second. suzuki recommends valve adjustments every 15,000 miles, but that doesnt mean yours couldnt be out of spec. id try bringing it to a different mechanic(a very knowledgable one) and have him take a look at it. have them run a compression check on all your cylinders.

You read my mind. I had this with my two previous bikes. If that's not it, then Im willing to bet that its your map. ppl have problems with these pc3's all the time. and a gutted can is not cool, if that's what you meant http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/nono.gif
