: Any experience with State Farm?

I have full coverage with state farm and recently set brand new bike down trying to avoid hitting a dog.

I know that with car insurance if you swerve to avoid hitting an animal Comprehensive will sometime cover it as long as it isn't another vehicle you hit. If i'm not mistaken if you don't have any claims on your insurance one comprehensive claim won't lead to an increase in the premium....

1.) Could i get the bike fixed under comp?
2.) Do you think my rates will go up and if so how much?

I hit a dog on my bike with Progressive, and they payed for the damage, but my rate went up. They sent a dumb ass chick to look at the bike, and she couldn't even the the bike model right. She wrote a check out for a body on a Katana, and I told her several times, it wasn't a Katana. They got pissed when I called her a dumb bitch at the office. Not my fault she didn't know what was going on.

I have alot of experience with SF. My aunt is an agent and my ex-wife has worked for them for 10years. I have been with SF for 14 years.

It will be covered under your Comp.

As long as you haven't had a bunch of tickets and shit recently, your insurance shouldnt go up.

Contrary to popular belief, they don't raise your insurance every time something happens.

I have had 2 totals in the past 5 years (2004 Polaris Scrambler and 2006 GSX-R1000) not to mention 3 speeding tickets and my insurance hasn't went up $1.

Well, it has went up...but only because i keep buying more shit. :hammer

Another myth is that your insurance goes up when you get a speeding ticket. First of all, the state doesn't call SF and say "asshat got another speeding ticket". SF will only check your DMV if they are given a reason too (policy change, wreck etc). In other words, you could go years getting multiple speeding tickets and they would never know.

Secondly, some companies allow 1-2 speeding tickets a year, especially if you are a long term customer.

Alot of it depends on the relationship you have with your agent...and the relationship he/she has with the underwriters. I can't say if/how much your insurance will go up because i don't know your situation...but i doubt it will.

Something to consider is fixing the bike yourself. If it is just some levers, rashed bodywork and shit like that...fix it yourself off ebay. You probably have a $500 deductable (or higher) and there is no sense in claiming $1,000 worth of damage.

SF keeps accidents on record for 3 years. If you claim a little chickenshit incident now, you are basically using one of your free passes up...which means that if you have a major incident soon...they could drop you or raise your rates then.

BTW - make sure you stick to the whole "dog ran out in front of me" story :thumbup.
