: What RPM does your 600 scream at?

i'm still trying to break in my 08 gsxr 600 and ive read the owners manual on this in particular.

i was just wondering, at what rpm do you guys feel your bike is screaming at and what is safe and good for the engine.

LETS ONLY TALK ABOUT SHIFTING FROM FIRST TO SECOND AND FROM SECOND TO THIRD!

this is how i shift from first to second:
kick down to first, throttle to 5000 rpm and then kick up to second.
(is it safer to go higher than 5000? if so at what rpm?)

from second i do the same, throttle to 5000rpm then kick up to third

i am basically asking at what rpm should i shift, starting from first.
can someone dumb it down for me

(ie. first _____rpm shift, second____rpm shift, third ____rpm shift)

much appreciated!

well i have a k6 600 and i did exactly the same thing when i did the break in on my bike. Even when i drive "conservative" i shift around 5000-6000 rpms. Ur fine just dont go past 8000rpms.

Follow the shift schedule in your owners manual, it spells it out pretty clearly

its safe to do 6krpm, i been doing 6/7k rpm mostly

but my manual says first 800 km, maximum 8krpm

then it says next 800km 12krpm maximum

then it says after 1600km 16k rpm

so thats a suggested 1600km break in, slit 2 ways. which in american terms is 500 miles each way 8k and 12k, then full power.

i started a bit slower, but now im starting to pick up the rpm. at almost 750 miles.

but i have done full throttle through the gears to about 120-140 mph about 5 times.

but for the first like 100 miles i was really gentle. but still maxing at about 7k rpm

I broke mine in hard.. None of that "below 6K RPMs" stuff. Just popped it in first and took it up to near redline, and let off the throttle until the RPMs get low and repeat.. Lots of controversy on this method but it works for me.. Oil/oil filter change at 20 miles and again at 200 for me..

Clutch in, bike in first, throttle yanked to the stops, briskly release clutch.

these sorts of bike are much smoother the higher up the rpm's, mine is pretty jerky in the low rpm's, but smooth as silk between 6k - 16k

HAHA, this thread is funny. Even for a 'GIXXER' board.

What rpm to shift at? What rpm does your bike scream at?

The manual is pretty clear. Not sure where the confusion is.

keep it under 8, after 600 mi, shift at red line. If you look in your manual, it will tell you exactly how to do it "by the book"... The reason why ripping the engine up at first will hurt is because there are shraps that can come off as the engine begins to wear, then you have metal in your oil :nono . Just look at your manual, but you would be safe to stay under 8000 RPM and then after 600 (give or take 20 mi) take it to a shop and let them do a 600 mi oil change/ check up. After i did that i put it to red line in 1st and 2end on the first major road out of the parking lot :punk

i have purchased three brand new bikes over the years, i've ripped them a new ass right from the get go every time.
i've always thought if something happened, it's under warranty. :dunno

i've yet to have a problem.

as a matter of fact, i brought a R6 to a shop for them to jet and tune it.. 99 rwhp on the dyno BEFORE the exhaust and jets where added.
stock is supposed to be 96 rwhp.
i hit the rev limiter riding it home from the shop the day i bought it. :oops

beat on that biotch.. it'll take it!

I shift no sooner than 25,000 RPM, thats where the power really comes in.

1500 Rpms, oh wait thats when I start screaming. Usually around 8k is where it screams best.:burnout

I broke my last one in hard and never had a problem in the 4 1/2 yrs I had it. I am doing the same on my K8. Check out the link al8er7 listed above and decide for yourself. It worked for me in the past

+1, pull outta the lot with 0 miles on it and give it hell the whole way home and as soon as you get home remove the warning stickers and fuckin mudflap...:punk
