: K8 Fairings?

So i bought the bike new knowing that i'd end up laying it down at least a couple times in learning to ride it (10 years on dirt bikes, but that doesn't mean much), so i figured a new set of fairings into my overall purchase cost of the bike.

Well sure enough, today at my Commands Motorcycle safety class (free but had to use own bike), i laid the bike down and the right side fairings are jacked.

Obviously i'm not going to put new fairings on here for at least a couple months, but i figured i'd start looking around.

the only problem is i can't find anyone selling k8 fairings. Are they the same as the K7 fairings or are they different? If they're different, does anyone know where i can find some? I checked ebay and all that but nobody had 8k's listed.

The K7 and K8 are completely different. Not sure of where they'll sell OEM fairings as the bike is pretty new, but your local dealership should be able to provide you with that information, or you can take your chances and wait for someone who wants to toss their stock fairings away for some race plastics. www.oneidasuzuki.com has the cheapest prices for OEM fairings, but I'm unsure if they have them for the K8.. You might want to check.

How bad is the damage? It might just be cheaper to repaint.

When you get it replaced or repaired, invest in frame sliders. If you had some from the beginning, there probably would have been a good chance your fairings would still be in good or decent shape if you dropped it. Nevertheless, good luck and let us know how it goes.

Frame sliders are being installed late next week (parts and labor free... i wheeled and dealed quite a bit to get a good price). Woulda waited on the course, but it's only offered once a month at my command and required to get the bike on base. Its not too bad. there's a part where the fairing is cracked and little cracks spider out, a few deep scratches and a bunch of light scratches.

Some creative placing of carbon fiber tape on both sides will cover those spots up and look like it is part of the bike.

If you bought the bike knowing you would lay it down why did you not buy a used starter bike and once you get the experience get the K8?

If you are crashing during motorcycle training do yourself a favor and park the gixxer and get a starter bike to lean on before you hurt yourself or someone else.

laying the bike down was not due to my riding ability, but moreso another student not knowing how how the controls of a bike work. I don't understand how your comment answers my fairings question, or why everything on any automotive (bike or otherwise) devolves into one person saying that if you haven't been riding/driving for the past millenia and a half, you should switch to a 250/honda civic. i don't get it. :shrug

don't take that as me yelling or anything, it just bothers me thats all.

You never want to learn how to ride on a bike like a 08 600 as they are not forgiving and not the best option to learn on. Sport bikes are very unique and lot's happens very quick especially in critical situations. It takes years to build skills.

There are post after post of people getting hurt because they figured they would get the latest high HP bike to learn on.

It is the same with any motorized vehicle. Can you imaging giving someone Cr 500 to lean on? Or an 800 HP street car to lean on?

Just trying to keep you alive but take the info and do as you wish.

Sliders are being installed late next week/ early the week after. i worked it into the deal when i bought it, but they were backordered.

I understand completely on the high HP thing, however i learned to drive a car for the first time in a '01 SVT Cobra putting almost 500 to the wheels. While it was harder at first, i ended up learning more and driving better because i had the oppourtunity to expand my skillset beyond your standard 4 door sedan. so when looking at bikes, i figured i'd go the same route, and get something that i can grow into as time goes on.

thanks for the links BTW

PSHHHH ya good luck with those sliders or a cage, i have been trying to get some sliders forever, even did a post about it, KR tuned pushed back order from april 11 to april 29 to now may 9...... as for a cage you might just consider playing the loto, because the odds of finding a decent one are less.

If anyone begs the differ please message me and let me know where to get some dam frame sliders or a cage, because i ride with full gear and right now my baby is riding bare ass naked. :banghead

I dont want to take this thread in that direction, but I dont think a 600 is an excessively powerful bike to learn on. Yes, it is not forgiving and not tolerant of beginners, but if you keep the speed down, and just concentrate on riding, not sport riding, for the first year and you have a sensible head on your shoulders, you should be okay. Now if you said you had bought a hayabusa for your first bike, that's a different story. You're doing the right thing by taking safety courses, take the MSF one also.

All but the tail will.

Do you know this for sure first hand? Others have told me the tail will fit. I personally do not know, but, a tow truck driver dropped my K7 last week while towing it, and now I need a tail and I like the K8 tail better so I was wanting to get a K8 tail.
