: S.O.B., i am getting confused on apexes and proper lines
MyCarIsFaster 04-30-2008, 04:40 PM Man, i have been frustrating myself with trying to figure out how to determine a proper line and how to determine where to apex on the track.
How do you determine correctly while riding the track where the correct or best apex point is????
Secondly, in this link (http://www.drivingfast.net/techniques/track_corner.htm), it talks about the classis racing line (carrying speed) wich sounds like the ideal thing and i hear folks speak of keeping up corner speed. But then in the next figure, figure 2, they show the "racing apex," wich allows you to get on the gas earlier (wich ive read a great deal about here also and something to try and achieve), but that line differs from the racing line in figure 1.
So how the hell do you go about determining a line with the proper apex, the most corner speed, and allowing yourself to get on the gas early as possible????? It seems they show these lines and attributes almost being different???
I need help

In your 'drive fast technique' page, there are just a few basis. The first entry is normal street granny removing the paint on the apex. You see that paint removed and they are off the road and not in the concentration of we is us bike cares were we go. Or, at least I care each time out I am riding.
Vans turning in front of you is to slow down and not act the fool with the places you know are dangerous and you have to be on guard. Same with someone darting out and you at speed is more the steady hand speed is that need.
You will need a steady hand and not something on and off and on and zzzzzzzzzz, That is where you do not have that 'zone' I like do not even think about it anymore. My revv's are conservative in and out of the entries and straight steadies.
I'm not on the brakes a lot. I am gap-timing the line? You need to watch the vid and keep looking in the screen to see me setup for the next and the next and the next and it is a ribbon stream like those chineze dancers, (if you can sea them through their in dDEEP dust tree eel fog) is how you want that mindset or is how I like to setup my mind is wanting that concentration back in the saddle.
So it is out each day and that steady struggle to keep throttle clean. Keep the line the ribbon. Practice-Practice-Practice stepping up the speed. Look at the lower picture and how far left the car is in the drawing... Data is where I stand is more in that gray is area.
Then you know my basic move is? You think I do not have is reserve is middle drawing and squirt your load is on the first drawing you copy the third drawing we wanna us for top is day speed is to pizz and use each and every drawing is a line is.
I would if I were given this raw data 'net/tech is knee dragging is not yet you ain't fast is yet dot net? Eyes will gate you dare if you dare is to open the enveloper watching me go down is day road iz me. I cannot teach is you sheet is data cry is telling me I do not is know is my tune us up my own bike.
I have to drill it in head is like cry is and you tool up your own video and show us your riding technique. To each his own and now leave me alone is I ride my own ride is you may now visit day, "N V LOOP EAR." My ride. My way. Take is Cycle Word is day high is way you out of like bill is france is smoke day use is next?
Not my call you in the asking what is up with my apex? MaycareISFatear... Ah no, My bike is much IS fast tear peeis in my; tank you 4-stroke azzking.
Romulus22 05-01-2008, 06:37 AM ^^^ i can not understand a single post ive seen from this guy.
where are you from 1000 tears?

:wtf
seriously i was really trying hard to figure out what this means but honestly it doesnt make much sense?
1000tears 05-01-2008, 07:14 AM Romulus... Eye am ream us in year dream is. You can show someone so much and then it is off to the races. How can you formulate how one heads into a turn at speed? It is a practice skill or is it instinct some just fly into turns quicker than others. How can you have someone read a few lines or watch a vid on line and all of a sudden you read a paragraph watch 8 minutes of someone having sex with their bike and now sing me up for a factory contract, I read and watched someone, read someone. I am fast as gaz out the exhaust pipe is.
Wear Out am eyes from is? I am from Sector 2. And no, I am not under someone's assumption of illegal intake is a clean body for practice is my drug and caloric intake. Why? You got keys to a 1098 you giving out rides?
Romulus22 05-01-2008, 07:25 AM you make no sense.
and sector 2? are you Romanian or Chinese? hows that works
1000tears 05-01-2008, 07:50 AM dsmg,
I seem to trophy websites. I speak in the abstract. For example, someone is questioning me on the ECU and how it functions. I use 'cry' in a sentence so now you know who is now about to not only not stay with me on each step to the GPS and all that is stoic, and here I am about a week or who knows how long CYcle World is lasted me wondering where all the book learners were in the mechanical steps?
I mean, here is Cycle World receiving all that high tech data from the factory (every last one of them bike makers); and it reads too easy is that tech. You go up against someone asking a computer bike question and it should walk like points/advancers/jets being the simple 3 variables to start an engine (fuel-spark-compression); and if no one can decipher the book in the abstract, then why not speak in the abstract so you can capture the easy way the mechanics work, but to show one to speed? GOOD LUCK!
You hold on to my wrist and when I am on the WOT and you have your hand twisting mine on the opposite direction.... How can you get to speed so you are even the WOT where I want to twist your wrist off is to shut it down; you are way over my head... You need a pair of eyes on you and a contract ready and waiting. You either have it or you do not.
And that is, "Desire." You do not have that one caveat about fear and all that dying to know were your edge is when you open that envelope to speed... It all rests on you and there is no one to teach you that.
Eyes way out ahead pointing to the next apex setup and your own head is thinking faster, I know I can take this one a lot faster next time is that practice. You begin with that assumption of a death-wish is the wish for speed. Who is thinking of dying but dying to try it over and over is to keep alive and concentrate of nothing else.
All I do is answer 0 questions someone with a shop manual should find the answer to. That is all I would like to do. And if Sector 2 is too much, then there is one more CryBaby in the groupthink that thinks they have the answers (as the zero answers wilt down the main subject page). So ear I am is a desire to answer via book to one who has a problem with the bike. Then there is a Cry-Baby in every website that wants is to toss out any other abstract showing up?
I have that Cycle World video diss is that GroupThink for everyone who suffers. Not me. Way too many websites we all show up someplace else. How many do you know in your travels can keep up with the tech let alone the ride now. I'm too old but try me on a corner... Like I still have not mailed my letter. Beez wax is I still have one to pull out of year diaper aka Cytickle Worlds is like this...
Ever hear of Smokey Yunick? He blew away the field and Bill France (owner(s) of Daytona Speedway) thew the guy out. Years later as Bill's health was on the decline, Bill had his driver keep driving over so Bill could ask Smoke out for lunch or a fishing trip. All that driving Bill insane was his handler driving over to the best garage in town; seems France wanted to make amends with the Smoke. Guess what happened?
Romulus22 05-01-2008, 07:55 AM i give up :scratch

Its not rocket science..... that link you posted where the car was going into the turn is how you're suppose to take a corner. Out, in, out. What is so hard to understand?
On your next trackday try to grab a hold of an instructor or even a friendly fellow rider pitting next to you and ask them if they can lead you around for a session. Some people can't understand lines around the track even if you drew it on their forehead and then pound it in with a mallet. Oh yea playing some gran tourismo helps and I'm not joking.
1000tears 05-05-2008, 07:31 AM dsmg, Lettuce just say dare are a few posers or wannabee's that practice up and down some canyon. I was minding my own business traveling down the same road and I had an open road being they were up the hill turning around to do it all over again.
My point is, I looked in the rear view and there were a few bikes that had more ground clearance than me. Had (to be) younger, braver riders than me, but no on passed me and I did my own bumbling turns, blowing who knows how many and going in some lane where lucky no cars were.
Not only that, they or the best rider up front could not pass me in the tight stuff. Tell me if that group did not take the challenge I proposed in the, "come and get some" as in pass me... Try and pass me and then see if I pass you back.
You need a head game. A confidence game. I will run you off the road in a ditch game of wills. I had the bike, the brakes, the balls. The practice makes perfect.
If you are not taking your lines and people see you coming up like what the fuck is coming up in my rear view mirror is they move over in the fast lane they see me coming up on them in the 'timing'lift." They did not need to move one inch... I had them covered.
Diss ain't no keith is code is show. Diss be day, "EN V LoOP Ear!" Rain my ride. Dirt my track... Bee wit you in a sec back on day tar mack.
1000tears 05-05-2008, 08:05 AM Look at WGBong's pic. Try my best to find fault in that photo, but it sings so sweet a perfect line out the apex. Perfect knee plant. Plenty of bike lean or it's scrape an dare goes the front end wash.
The head is aggressive and that posture says, "My head is moving faster than the bike." He's got all the moves!

Hahaha, man that is so funny you mentioned that. My buddy bought the new one last week and i told him i might get it just on account of learning lines, so its funny you mention that.
Its hard for me b/c im just a drag racer of years now. Im used to piloting 1300hp car straight, and just now started motorcycle trackdays (ive done 2 now in lat month and a half, have another May 18th). Problem i have currently, wich im trying to eductae on and fix, is i see a right hander coming up, i turn right, i see lefty coming, i turn left.......basically no science or method to how i get around the track and i know thats not good. So in my quest for education i was getting alittle confused
Hard for me to ask a fellow rider if i can follow right now as im still just in the Novice category.

That's understandable if you've been into drag racing. Personally I have been watching car/motorcycle racing before I even turned 10 and I use to be a gran tourismo nut. So when I did my first trackday the lines just came very naturally for me. I honestly contribute a lot of that to playing gran tourismo.
The key word is to "flow" from one corner to the next. Since you drag race this should be a simple concept..... lets just say you want to go around the track in as straight of a line as possible. If you see a chicane what should you do? You want to go through it in as straight of a line as possible. Same thing when you're going around a corner. The more straight you go the faster you go.
If you don't want to ask a fellow track day rider for help you can always go ask one of the instructors for help. Or you can just fork out a few hundred bucks and go to a racing school. IMO its nearly impossible to verbally tell you how to run the perfect lines on the track, you really have to be shown visually.

Wow I actually understood that post of yours and its not the length of a book :lol Thanks for the compliment.
pagey82 06-29-2010, 02:01 AM been desperately waiting/looking for a thread like this.
i understand now: the middle-apex style is technically the correct way around a corner but it's not necessarily the fastest. i am used to the middle-apex racing line and my mates who ride late-apex style always leave me for dead.
understanding basic physics also help. bikes have limited traction (duh) and as such, turning in slower, later and sharper reduces the time the bike is exposed to forces trying to push you off the road; as opposed to holding a steady constant arc around the whole corner.
looking forward to trying this on my next ride. get the majority of the turn out of the way as fast as possible and get on the gas earlier.
stay safe!
TurboTyla750 08-28-2010, 01:23 PM i have not tracked my bike yet but i want to very much. I have done a few auto crosses in my car. But i understand lines and middle and late apex.
But this 1000 tears guy is killing me. Dude go write a novel. And when you get is all out. Come back here and post normal. lol
nick49 08-31-2010, 10:03 PM If you're on a track, walk it. Stop as you approach a turn and look at it from different angles. Think about riding, look for an entry point and apex. Pick up reference points, remember them. Practice going in slow, initiating a turn, apexing and getting on the gas. Look thru the turn, where you look is where you go, keep your head level.
In the canyons, practice going in slow and deep, late apexing and getting on the gas early. Pick up speed, purposing going in real deep, a quick push on the bar and the bike will drop to initiate a turn, clip the apex and roll on.
Finally, practice, practice, practice.

Y2KGSXR750 09-11-2010, 12:01 AM 1000 tears... EBONICS much? Or are you just trying to be cool? or are you using a speach converter? You sound like you may have some good advise, but then again, Who knows what the fuck your really saying.. If its a (example) POLSIH to English thing.. I feel for you.. If it's not a POLSIH to english thing.. What meds are you on?..LOL j/k
Try to write that novel..
Spitz04 09-17-2010, 07:29 AM On racetrack its pretty easy to see, usually if there are rumble strips your line should come close to all of them at some point, some differ as cars race on them but also the line is usually a darker area on the track from rubber being layed down..
