My 2nd gear is having all sort of problems. I got a new -1 in front. Could this problem be rusulting from that?

yea so i went to a local bike shop and had them put on a -1 sproket. A few days later i noticed that when in second gear around 11grand the bike seems to skip. The first time i did this i thought my tire was baking. The more and more i ride it it will do this at a lower rpm each time. Now it does it twice in 2nd gear. I will get on gas hard and it will stutter at 7grand and around 10grand. its almost like the engine stops running for a spilt second and then comes back on agaiN. I have no idea if this is even related to the new sprocket. I went to the shop today and they were busy so they told me to come back monday but he says it sounds liek a clutch problem not the sprocket. Any idea why this is happeneing its driving me fuggin crazy?
this is setup on an 01gsxr 600.

If you have been a member on this site around 2002, you would have seen more and more posts on problems similiar to yours with 2001 600's and the occassional 750. I'm not saying you are having the same transmission problem but you might. Try a search on this using "2nd gear" as your search.

yea i did a search and it seems that there was a problem in 2000. Then they were supposed to fix it in 2001. i hope this isnt that problem because it seems very costly you have to replace 2nd and 6th gear. This wont be under warantee either because i am the 3rd owner of the bike and it has 11k miles on it.

Not sure it would be the sprocket, but is everything the way it should be. Like chain tightened correctly, rear tire aligned right? Take the sprocket cover off and check the sprocket and see if everything looks to be all in order and nothig seems to be hitting anything. And make sure the main nut on the sprocket is all the way down and not hitting the cover. The dudes at the bike shops I usually don't trust unless I personally know them. Cause most of them are idiot young guys who don't really pay attention. That is why I do everything I can my self or I figure out how.

what he said.... i just posed this problem about a month ago - I got the same bike - they had to replace 2nd, 3rd, & 6th gears... along w/ the shift forks and some other bit parts. I saved $250 by taking my motor out of the bike, but.... it still cost me $700 to fix it. If you have time to wait, get the gears undercut.

yea im debating that. I have never taken a part or fixed a motorcycle engine before so im not sure i want to start it and then fuck up and have a bike with no engine and parts everywhere. But i think with the manual ill be able to do it over the winter. How many hours did you have to put into it and Did you know what you were doing prior to it??

LOL!!!!! I am seriously thinking of never buying a suzuki b/c of this. I posted 2nd gear problems on this forum and took it to three bike shops to see what they would say. ALL said the same thing. We need to take the motor out and look at the tranny but it will be around a grand to 1500. Well, here is the update: The total cost is 1800 dollars, the sent away the transmission to get fixed, and asked if I ever raced it. I did buy the bike used so I cannot blame this exclusively on Suzuki but after reading this forum I can place 50% on them. I would suggest if you have the time and the garage to do it yourself. I did not have the time and locally had the money. Now it is time to call it quits and sell the bike. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif

yea no one will buy it with a fucked up 2nd gear. unless i sell it someone who doesnt rev 2nd gear high. I almost hope i crash it to get some $$ and not deal with the hassle of fixing. Im a college student I dont have the $$$

save your money up over the winter and make it a winter project. When you have the funds, fix it yourself and save a bundle. There are plenty of people here willing to help walk you through it.

ya and at the same time you can learn quite a bit about your bike, and feel closer to her having open her up and worked on her.

Sucks that the gear just messes up like that. I still can't find any info on the specific parts for the fix. I wouldn't think you would replace the gear with a factory one would you?

I have an 01 600 and 2nd went out on me too. Its not hard to fix. Twizod... sell it to me.. cheap style... lol. I've never seen a 2000 750 that didnt lose 2nd gear. Lots of the 01 600s did it.. I havent really heard of it happining to the 02-03s.

I've just read your post ( a bit late, eh?!! ) and it looks like you have the second gear problem! I know becasue I have had it too, and the symptoms were the same. I fixed it myself ( had the manual and took my time ) and I took loads of pictures in the process ( if you need some just mail me ). The bike ran perfectly after the fix, BTW.

Warning: Regardless of what some people say, although this is a *reasonably* straight-forward job, it is not for the squemish, or the novice. I would say that you do have to have some mechanical knowledge - I have shagged around with bikes for a while now and I still though that it was a big job. Get somebody to help you if you are not sure.
Also, see my post about removing the engine to get you started.......oh, and ask the people here, and don't be afraid of asking any "stupid" questions because these are usually the ones that save you a fortune!

Cheers
Rupert

P.S. Funny, but the Suzuki guys at the shop here in Germany had *never* heard about this problem!
