This costs $0
It takes about 15 mins depending on how skilled you are.

remove the mud flap
take the tag holder off-- black bar with reflectors on the side
take the black washer that sits between the mud flap and the actual bike
line the center bar of the washer with the holes on the tag holder and mark an drill them
then bend the washer about 115 degrees or how ever you like it.
bolt it up and hope it doesnt suck.

oops i almost forgot put some sort of tape on the top of the tag holder so it doesnt scratch the bike.

I did a similar one, using the same bracket as you, but I bolted the back two tabs, then bent the front taps down and attached the tag directly to those tabs. the slick part about doing it that way was that it placed the tag slightly in front of the little hole in the tail section where the stock tag light wiring came through, so I was able to fashion a led tag light using a single white led I got at vato zone and a piece of fuel line that I had that happened to fit snuggly in the aforementioned wire hole. The led is the type where it is just a white led on the end of 2 wires, so I bead blasted the clear led capsule so it would spread the light out, and then I pulled the led into the fuel line wires first, so that the tip of the led was sticking out of one end of the 2 inch peice of fuel line, and the wires were sticking out of the other end. I then splice the factory male plug from my stock tag light onto the led wires, and stuck the new tag light assembly in the hole, adjusting its position to maximize lighting on the tag. Then I simply plugged the connector in under the seat and viola a super cheap ($5) badass do it yourself kit w/ tag light!!

corrado, what did you do with the light?

First, thanks to the OP for the great idea. I did it a little differently though. I didn't drill anything at all. I flipped the bracket and used the "legs" without the little crossbeam and just connected the plate bracket to it with a screw and nut. And it turns out an LED will do the trick for lighting. i'm still figuring out how i wanna position it...The pics explain it all much better:

As you can see, i didn't need to drill to attach the plate bracket to the support. i bent it the opposite way:

http://i131.photobucket.com/albums/p294/logicworkz/Da%20Gixxer/IMG_6239.jpg

Attach the plate as OEM does but now the plate screws are used to attach the bent bracket instead of the nasty fender!

Finished product. i fiddled with the LED so much i broke the connector but i will splice in a new one tomorrow....

spliced in new 8-bulb LED. The light is SICK.

I sped up the shutter for this pic to so the bulbs would show.

All the wiring is under the rear seat cowl. Again, big thanks to corradoslc for saving us some money!:cheers

can someone please post up picture of the led connection and such?

i really dont wanna fool around with a brand new bike unless i know what to do.

i know how to solder but no idea how to assemble a circuit board to power 8 leds, and which resistors to use.

hmm, looks good. how about the LED inside the bike. Would like one of those lit up when i park and ride the bike. I am guessing it doesn't suck much power as the LED's dont need much...

Unless you put a little more bend in that piece you will contact the back tire when it uses all the available travel. Looks good, just make sure you get it up and out of the way a bit more.

You read my mind. I used the same tail light wire to power two LEDs inside the plastics. I plan on adding a couple more as it's a little too subtle. I want to be a freakin UFO on the highway at night!

The LED board i used i bought at Pep Boys. I didn't make it myself. Any LED that accepts 12V (basically all do) And splicing the two wires is cake.

If you know basic wiring, then you wont need to worry so much.

Ive personaly got a piece of scrap metal, then drilled the individual holes for each LED. then just wired them up in a circuit.

So I stole GZER's idea and I don't wanna toot my own horn but cleaned it up a little bit. What I did was the same bend as gzer, which is brilliant and easy enough to just bend with your hands haha, and the only thing i changed was bolting the plate holder to the bent piece with two bolts first. THEN, I bolted the plate on the outside of those bolts. Instead of bolting the plate/holder/and bent piece all together with one bolt. Its a very tight fit but it does the job :cheers

Where do I D/C the lower brake light that is connected to the rear mudflap? I'd rather not cut it.

gzer

that's not a brake light. It's a reflector. Just chop the wire dude. I guess you wouldn't know that unless you were watching yourself braking. LOL. Have somebody brake while you watch if you don't believe me.

Oh haha I realized that 5 seconds after I posted. I got mine all done and it looks awesome! I'd like to get rid of the tabs on the side where the round reflectors mounted though.

i liked to thank gzer also for his idea as i did the same thing and it was easy and worked well and for the lights i just used two blue leds i had left over from my car haha and it looks awesome except mine is a little crooked haha i will take pics 2maro if i can

where did you connect them though? i have 3 blue lds wired nicely on the back side of my bike that i connected to the licence plate light, but i cant figure out how to cleanly feed the wires to light up the sides of the bike where the engine is...so my question i guess is where did you connect the lights too if not the licence plate wire...and if you did connect them to the licence plate wire where in the hell did you manage to feed the wire through so that it looks clean?

gzer
07-24-2008, 03:48 PM
i did use the plate wires. I know i've got the left side going right past the clutch wire. That could be better. The one on the right side is completely hidden. I have to take a look at how i routed it again. I can tell you i did take off the seat to get them through the hard to reach places.

mferg-tsr
07-25-2008, 07:49 PM
yea i got some leds in the back but i cant really find a good way to feed the wire through to the front and still make it look clean...and also what did you use to stick the leds to the body?

i kept the tabs on the side to slide/hold my flag on PR day.:punk I'm runnin a swing arm plate mount now..yes they fuck with me :biggrin but i love the look. And as long as you have a light, this DYI OEM hack mod thing will work is not illegal. I got pulled over twice with it and no probs here in NJ.

A fender eliminator voiding a warranty....I hope you are kidding...

If not, it will not void your warranty. The dealership has to prove that a faiure of some part was a direct result of something you did to the bike.

That makes sense. I wasn't sure at the time because I was going to cut the plate lamp off instead of disconnecting the connector.
