I knew it felt slow but not 15.5@85 slow!!! The bike has some jetting issues, I think the past owner put a K&N and slip on but left the stock jets on. The bike is faster at below 10 grand at part trottle. Oh yeah there was some holes on the airbox but I plugged them and it runs a bit better but still very slow! How fast it should run? I'm expecting high 12's.

i ran 12.3 (first few times was 13.2-13.8 w/horrible 60-ft times), but then my skinny ass is only 120lbs.

Reaction time will NOT affect ET. My launch sure is killing me but I launched at 12k, must be jetting issues.

http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bs.gif If you launced that bike @12k RPM you would be on your ass as your bike Just flipped over on you. Now if your Clutch is realllllly shot you may have launched @12k

Awe hell.......... I'm not into drag racing, even though I've won my share of street races. he he he.....

I think my favorite was when I did a 4 way drag race on my 86' VFR 750 against an 86' FZ 750, 86 ZX-10 Ninja and an all out GPZ1100 lowered and stretched drag bike....... I got the hole shot and won..... the GPZ was gaining fast at the end of the quarter but I still had 2 bike lengths on him, had 4 bike lengths on the FZ 750 and I had 6 bike lengths on my buddys ZX-10.......he couldn't talk shit to me anymore after that. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/spit.gif

Ooooooooh my wild and crazy youth. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

With a good running bike a 12k launch will sure land me on my ass, but mine just bogs. I tried different launches on 5 passes and 15.5 was my best. When I got the 15.5 was by reving it to 12k at the launch. So lower your bs flag now boy!

So you are saying that you drop the clutch @12k rpm and the bike just boggs? I am thinking it could be you clutch slipping really bad.

something is definately wrong with this picture. launching at 12k? i've dropped the clutch at 7k and that already had the nose pointed towards the clouds (not quite a 12 o'clock but close).

When did I say I DROPPED the clutch at 12k? I launched at 12k RIDING the clutch out. I'm not stupid enough to drop the clutch at 12k!

Here's how I launched it, I revved it and kept it at 12k, then I started to ride it out while giving it gas and the result was the bike was bogging.

Are you letting go of the throttle when you let go of the clutch? If you were holding it at 12k, like they said... nose up, ass down.

Then again, maybe your bike isn't get beans for fuel when the throttle is wide open. You said it's 'faster' below 10k at partial throttle, right? I think either way that thing needs some carb work.

you aren't sposed to just dump the clutch when you launch a bike
so it could be done at 12000 if done correctly on a 600
but i would say its jetting also

Yep that's the problem, I played with the jets a bit this afternoon and cleaned them up a bit, the bike feels better. Let's see when I take it to the track tonight.

OK, BIG improvement tonight at the track but still slow though. 13.50@103 was my best and my short times where 2.3-2.2. The bike felt so much faster on the top end. All I did was to plug all the big holes the previous owner did to the airbox and bolt down the box because it was not bolted down so air was getting past the filter and that was just too much airflow for whatever jets I have on the bike now. This time I was launching at 9k, I tried at 12k again but the front wheel came up this time and it freaked me out!

So I shaved off two seconds and gained 18 mph at the traps! That should be close to a 20 hp gain! And all I did was restrict the intake!

Well technically to each his own but if you ask real racers most should tell you to bring the bike up to 3500 with your body more towards the front of the bike and dump the clutch , if it bongs you need more rpm's... if the front comes off the ground to much then dump it at lower RPM's. If you are Slipping the clutch you are killing your reaction time and 60 foot times.
Plus reallytearing up those friction plates and glazing yoursteel plates.
Now what do you have to say.

Well I'm used to drag race high powered FWD and AWD cars and that requires slipping the clutch. Next time I'll try dumping it at low rpm's and see what happens. Hopefully I won't land on my ass!!!

It *really* does depend upon the bike... I've got a 55" wheelbase (600 swingarm/750 forks&triples) on my 1127 and it would plant me on my head if I simply dropped the clutch with the throttle pinned - even at 3500RPM - the local dragstrip uses gallons of that VHT stuff and the bikes just absolutely HOOK UP and don't spin at all... on plain (non VHT'd)pavement, I can get away with kinda "banging" the clutch out and then catch it at the last little bit of travel and it will spin the tire and wheelie at the same time, but it STILL slips the clutch quite a bit through 1st gear... then a big wheelie when I grab 2nd and I can finally pin the throttle hard and dump clutch at 3rd. I've got a quickshifter to play with now, and I'm told that it will make the 1st-to-2nd shift a lot easier to control, but anyway, on some bikes you just have to slip the clutch.
