Anybody know the right way to seal this thing up/snap it together (esp, where the carbs meet the manifolds?) It's got more seams than a soccer ball!

Maybe........ but it will cost you a Ti axle for all my secret's! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/lick.gif

Knowledge is power! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

Theres not much room in there for anything other than the carbs is there? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Did you get any instructions on installing the airbox? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gif

Ram Airbox 101:

ok....... here is what I would do if I were you. First buy some Adhesive Backed Heat Barrier found HERE. (http://speedzone24-7.com/SpeedZone24-7-Print-Catalog.htm) then line the intake side of the airbox with this cutting out holes for the carbs that are slightly smaller than the actual boots so that it's a tight fit to prevent air leakage. you can line the interior in the same location as well to prevent the sticky backing from gathering junk....

As an alternative to this you can order the expensive Airbox Doughnuts that Airtech sells that are to seal the airbox at the intake boots. in my opinion the top method should help keep the carbs cooler. (remember cool air is important for making HP) OR you can do a combination of the two........using both items.

Next buy some Adhesive Backed Foam Weather Stripping..... preferably 1/2" wide X 1/8" tall. You will line all the airbox cover attachment points with this...... again to prevent air leakage. (Just be sure not to get too thick of weather stripping.) Airtech sells 1/2" tall stuff for this.

Top the Airbox off with some Dzus quarter turn fasteners (3 or 4 on the top "Scoop" piece) (2 on the left side cover) (3 or 4 on the right side/top cover)....... believe me you will be in and out of this thing enough times to warrant the expense.

Last you will need to vent your gas tank vent hose into the Airbox to pressurize the fuel tank the same as the carb float bowls. Get some of the pink/clear tube from a hardware store for this...... if you have one of my CD's then look at the Yoshimura catalogs and reference the race bike pics and hose routing.

Just remember a leaky airbox is your enemy and will prevent you from tuning the carbs properly.

Actually, I've been puttering around w/cutting my v-dam up so I can put my lowers on. I've cleared the oil cooler, but it looks like I need to cut around the rad too, since it had to be spaced out to clear the big-a$$ header. BTW, does the hard oil line out of the right side of the cooler push hard on your fairing lower when you've got it buttoned all up?

I also bought a tow vehicle for getting to the track- a Land Rover Disco II, which can carry enough tongue weight for one of these: mototote (http://www.mototote.com)

Yes, the oil line does push against the lower. The stock setup had a rubber hose (3 or 4" long) that fits over the line to protect the lower from the heat. That bike carrier looks cool. What are they going for? My only worry would be security against theft. Planning any overnight race weekends?

The one for sportbikes is around $500, plus brakelights. As for security, I dunno. You can lock the carrier to the vehicle easily enough. Maybe a kryptonite around one of the wheels to the carrier?

Shit yeah it was a tight fit! I have about a 2 inch gap where the lower fairings are supposed to touch each other and now upon futher inspection I've noticed that the exhaust is barely touching the fan shroud giving it a vibration at certain RPM's. So I'll have to take her apart again and do some more dremel action. I've also picked up some newer year controls that I'll need to splice and rewire.hey those 41's didn't last for very long let me know how they pull.
I've got a set of 38's that I'll try to put in with the special Factory kit made for 1100's http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Well um Duckboy has an Airtech airbox that he was trying to figure out, me I'm squeezing a 1100 motor into a 600 frame and you can do the same with your "93" 750 if you wanted to.
It's a tight fit and with an extra oil cooler radiator invovled it makes the fairings almost impossible to fit without cutting some of it off. That's what most of this post was about except for ducky slackin alittle http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

I think he's asking about the screen inside the airbox- yes, you can remove this w/no problems.

BTW, I kept the screen on my oil cooler.

Oh, and a Ram Airbox is a specialized racing bit that forces air into the engine at high speed. It's not the same airbox you have.

As for your next questions, anyone's best guess is 5-10hp at 100+mph. The pieces to do this retail for about $1,500 to $2,000 and include different carbs, airbox, ductwork, and possibly fairings. You can find most of it around if you're patient for about half that price, which is what I did.

http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/ooo.gif Damn it cost that much? Hell I only paid $50 for the Ram Air box.... $550.00 For the 41mm FCR's and $400 for the fairing.... shit adds up I guess.... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

In the old days they estimated between 3-5 hp but if you read the article on sport riders website on the effects of ram air then the amount of increase with Ram Air is quite a bit more than the original estimate.

Sounds like half of $2k to me...

As for the SR article...

"We had no way of reproducing this effect on the dyno, but if we could..."

I'm willing to bet that on the road, you get a lot more than 20mb pressure @ 100+mph. Just different assumptions, I guess.

Put in that light, it sure seems like a lot of $$$ for dubious gains... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif but, I've been guilty of that problem before, and this prolly won't be the last time.

I need to re-read the article.... I swear it had a chart specifying the gains it made at various speeds...... Maybe it was another article found somewhere else..... damn my memory sux! http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cry.gif and to top it off I can't add or divide either!!

I like the idea of the Ram Airbox keeping crap out of my carbs more than anything.... Since I'm not using filters. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
