I don't know much about these bikes so I am asking for your help. I am looking at buying this 2001 Gixxer 600, but I am kinda nervous. I test drove it a couple of times it was fine, last time I drove it the (I think it's yellow) light on the upper right hand corner of the dash came on. I was told it was the fuel injector light I was driving the bike and hit about 5k rpm's and it just shut off and that light came on. The owner told me it was like that since he bought it. It just happens randomly. He attributes it happening to the bike being cold (under 100 Degrees) and that I shouldn't worry about it. What do you guys think? any ideas of whats going on? I want the bike, but don't want o get screwed. Your help is definitely appreciated.

If you knew more about "these bikes", I would tell you to have him put it in Dealer mode and see what the error code is. You can tell him to take the tail fairing off and on the left side of the bike is a white 4 wire connector with only 2 wires going into it and a black dust cover on it. Short across the 2 wires in that connector and turn the key to the "On" position. The dealer code will be displayed where the temperature is normally displayed. There is a sticky post on this board called FI Codes and that should tell you what the fault is.

What is he asking for the bike. It obviously needs something fixed. Question is, do you want to take on the responsibility of fixing it or look around for a bike that doesn't need any work.

If it were me, I would use it to haggle the price lower. If he wouldn't come down, I would say forget it.

Thanks man, thats some great info. The price I have offered is $3800 and he accepted. It has 16k miles on it and runs strong except for that issue. It is cosmetically pretty damn perfect. Couple of minor scratches but besides that its great. You think it's worth that price? I think it sounds good but i'm the novice so let me know. I think those bikes along with the 750's had a computer prob some kind of glitch but not 100% sure . thats why the FI comes on also happens when you do stoppies
