It is not so easy to see on the pic but let me describe it.

The extreme side of the tyre is worn out in front of the groove and when you go back to the center of the tyre it is worn on the back of the groove...?

On the pic the frony groove wearing is easy to see. It is a Michelin Pilot Sport.

im curious...why do you say that?
I've been trying to understand suspensions, but i cant say i understand how that wear pattern means he's low on rebound.

So, my interpretation of the wear is: the rear of the tread is worn on the center because he's on the gas hard there, so he's wearing on the trailing edge of the tire, but on the outer edge of the tire, he's not on the gas as hard, or perhaps off it some, so that wear doesn't happen. I would guess that the suspension is at one end or the other and the tire is slipping at lean (because the tire is skipping over bumps), but that would be just a guess...

This is the "Club Racer" forum, right? In that case, the correct answer is "You have a shagged tire, buy a new one." Case closed.

See you at the track.

Depends on what you're doing to it...
1200 miles would be an aweful lot of race miles for a single tire.
I don't know many tires that last more than a couple hundred race miles, really.
Hence, the race -forum comment.

1200 miles would alot for a track day tire also....

The tyre is two tack day old and in between it was just some "break in" miles...So if you look at the depth of the slits it is well before the limits. It is NOT race tyres. I was just puzzled because the wearing profile was different between the sides and the center. Maybe much gas on the center and sliding on the sides?????? http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif

Two track days is a lot of track miles. When using tires on the track, they don't wear out due to lack of tread. The rubber goes bad first. Chances are, you're got an assload of heat cycles on that sucker. Track days are tire killers. Getting hard on the gas will make the center that way, and the hot rubber flowing off the tire may be building up on the sides.

There are a ton of factors involved too- the tire will burn up real quickly with the wrong pressures... Basically, don't be surpirsed if it's cheesed.... What kind of tire is it, and what pressures where you running??

First off, the tire actually looks ok. It ISN'T a rebound issue. When you get tearing on the edges (where most of your wear is on a track) it usually is a sign of too much compression. Take a click or so out and see what that gets you.

Secondly, you are talking about a piece of shit street compound tire on a 750. It's going to eat that thing for lunch - I don't care how "old" it is. If it has 1200 miles on it, it is crap. Take them off, don't be a tight ass and buy a set of RACE compund tires.

Too many times street squirrels come up to us in these open track days and want us to figure out their problems with their street tires. It was never designed for what you are putting them through. It really is sorta hard to remedy something when it is the wrong thing to begin with.

Oh, not to be a dick, but if you are sliding the rear, it ain't much. The center is smooth due to the fact that the center never gets any serious wear. Essentially, it looks as if you are getting the bike over nicely, but not near the very edge. In other words, if it were a race tire, I would say you need to get the bike over more and drive harder than you currently are. You aren't getting close to the fine edge of traction and sliding/spinning. Looks ok to me. Get new race tires and do a day with them and THEN take a photo and let us see.

My advice is to try them all and use what you like the best. Tire brands are somewhat personal choices.

I personally like Metzler Rennsports.
But there are a lot of Dunlop guys and Michelin guys here as well.

Great response. Sure, it costs a bit, but asking which tire is best is like the "which is the best oil" thread. Opinions are like assholes - you get the point.

Anyway, we have tried every brand. Even Bickstones. I must say, we are currently happiest with Pirelli. So, there's my asshole, I mean, my opinion. Try a few out and see what works best for your riding style.

FYI I was trying out pilot sports on the track. The heat cycles literally cook the sticky out of them. On the street they ROCK. On the track they suck. I was sliding through every corner and wasn't even leaned over fully. I did about 6 track days on them (give or take, can't remember) plus a lot of street riding before that, and they have literally turned into plastic. I will never ride street tires on a track again (especially after yesterday ... mmm, slicks!).

As you know, there Mr. dehydration, I run dunlops but i have used pirelli's and as you know i love them both... and the only reason i was running dunlops is because we got them cheaper... i love them both so next season it will come down to what Miles or Steve can do for me.... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif
