: Fuel light problem...

I have a gsxr 1000 and was looking for some input from other riders. My fuel light is constantly on. Now I am stuck tracking mileage so I don't run dry. Is the problem a do it yourself repair or is it something that will have to be taken into the shop? Any help would be appreciated.

Either the gauges you have are from a 2001 gsxr 1000 or there is a piched wire somewhere in your harness.

so your saying that there is a pretty good chance that the fuel being on could be because the gauge cluster is off another year? when you talk about the pinched wire...are you meaning somewhere near the harness?

They may be from a 2001 1000.

If it is a pinched wire, it would be somewhere in the harness between the tank and gauges.

sending unit in the tank? is that somehow connected to the fuel pump unit which can easily be replaced? sorry i don't have a service manual to check on where the sendind unit would be.

There might be an easy way to tell what gauges you have. I think the 2001 has a 24 hour clock and the 2002 has a 12 hour clock.

yes, it's part of the fuel pump, but it can be replaced separately.

well damn, if thats the case then the gauges that i replaced are from an 01 bike. cuz the clock on mine is 24 hrs not 12. so do you think that having that 2001 gauge on my bike is the reason for my fuel light always being on? i was about to replace the fuel pump.
