well i currently have a 07 1k but i am thinking of getting a 08 600, love everything about the 08s, just wondering what it would take to beat a 1k, sorry if this question sounds a little :squid i'm just curious, thanks

The fastest riders I know all ride 600's twisties wise.

If you're referring to a straightline..... you might need to do enough motorwork and tuning to get around 125-135whp, then use some NAWWWWSSS, and then add a 50 teeth rear sprocket and a quickshifter..... then you should be able to take a stock 1000 up to about 120mph.

Yes, but do you think they would be any slower on say the 750?

What I meant was..... it just happens so that the fastest riders I personally know all ride 600's. And none of them have upgraded to 750's or 1000's so I don't know if they would be faster or slower.

the 750 would require more skills and wouldnt be as easier to ride as hard right? or is the 750 just as easy to ride as hard through the twisties?

what does it take to beat a 1000 with a 600?

well i would say about 400 more cc's.....

you can do all the motor work in the world and eventually beat a 1000 but in the meantime you could have just bought a 1000 and a 600 (and probably some more stuff as well)

It would require more skill of course but the 750 is basically the 600 with a bigger hammer. The same could be said for the 1000 when compared to a 750. I've danced with all three and to me, one is just as easy to ride fast and hard as the next.

buy the 600 bbetter upgraded comared to the 07 model. hp numbers are the same on the 750 granted the upgraded electronics but the 600 had a new valvetrain and a reworked head about 2 to 4 hp more than the k7 model. i have a 600 that will take just about any rider around here in the straight and the twisties (rider advantage most 1000 riders take that back most riders around here are squids lol or ruff rider want a be drug runners.) i also have about 25,000 into my bike cant figure out if it is a hobby or a sickness. so yeah you could buy all three bike for what i have in mine just about probably could get otd cash 25gs if you bought all 3. i would buy the new 600 over the 750 but that is me. just in case you got the itch to race. i have an 07 1000 all stock imagine that just with the hotbodies undertail. still got the fuglies on it those 40 lb drag bars on each side i mean the exhaust, not quite done with my 600 still working on it. and will have the 848 by summer so the money will go into that. the 1000 will probably remain stock to sell for the 09 hardly ride it any way only 1100k on it it is so deprived half of that was letting my brother in law take it to daytona. did pick up an 00 busa down there with 270 miles on it can you say museum quality. i need to stop lol i was owed money for the busa though took it for the trade

Not sure if you were joking but there are some very fast guys on this board as well as some hard core racers.

I am old and my racing days and dreams are over but I still crew for a few guys as well as dig doing track days and hitting a school here and there to continue to learn and improve. At track days I see more and more younger rides that after a bit of instruction turn some fast consistent lap times.

Again maybe you were joking or maybe you are and AMA guy in disguise but keep in mind not all guys on the site are posers or slow.

did you get rid of all three of those bikes recently? next question how much is going into the 750? i was thinking about buying a new 250 r for a simple track bike 3 grand otd and looks good. how was gs500 for the track? on the 250 i will probably wait and get a used one for cheap find someone in a crunch. i rode one of my buddies 125 ktms and it was a freaking blast i am 6'1 and was actually kinda comfortable on it. nice track bike too. i think that is alot to be learned from small bikes. what color 750 did you say you wanted

rraiderr
03-13-2008, 02:44 PM
Yea got rid of them over the last year or so.

Ordered the black 08750. This year only the small stuff like tires, brakes, rear sets and so on for track days. Over the winter suspension, gearing, clip ons, throttle kit, pipe and PCIII.

Yes the GS was a track bike. It was very fun. It was getting tired and I did not want to dump any more money in to it.

A group of us have the same idea you have about buying the 250 for the track. I even heard rumor about a 250 race class. I am sure it will be a blast and the price is right.

well the only thing i have seen around here ( naples,fl ) are noobs on 1k's , most of these guys cant even stay next to a 600 out of the hole ( i smack them up all day ) . reason beeing is that they have no expirience and the power over welms them out of the whole that they let go or short shift.

so you can beat a noob on a 1k with a 600 , but if you catch a good rider on a 1k he is going to make you look like you turned the bike of at the light . so if you are getting the 600 to drag race forget it , unless you can drive really fukin good , and then you are still going to get passed by a 1k at around 120mph.

On the straights? I only ask because my brother in law has a zx10R and cant hang with me on my 750. I lose him in the curves, then by the time he finishes the curve, Im reaching high speeds and hitting the next turn. A 750 will easily outrun a 1k with the right riders and roads. If your on a plain straight, I sure hope you win in a race. You both have the same mods, with you having more cc's and looking at your sig, more mods!!

Agree, not only that the cost would outweigh just buying a 1K. If you want a sleeper 600, get nos, even on that, the 600 is limited to several shots where as the 1K can run that all day long without worrying about prolonged engine damage. In the end (for me) the cost would almost outweigh the benefit.

at the track all but the most skilled riders are faster on a 600 than a 1000 as long as the track doesn't have Road America style straightaways. I sold my 1000 2 months ago and just bought an 08 600, and it is fast and superfun, and I am certain that I will be faster at jennings with it than I was with the 1000.

I hate to put this so bluntly but I think its so bullshit when people say a 600 will outrun 1000's on the twisties. They're right about one thing though.... its all about the rider.

Put a faster rider in a 1000 and he will ride fast in the twisties.... put a fast rider on a 600 and he'll ride fast..... put a slow rider in a 1000 and he'll be slow.... put a slow rider on a 600 and he'll still be slow.

I know plenty of guys who ride 1000's that are fast as hell on canyons. I'm not too shabby and I've had a guy in an RC51 leave me behind this past weekend on a really tight road. I think when it comes down to it its just personal preference. But to say that a guy on a 600 will automatically ride better than a guy on a 1000 is ridiculous. Just like how my buddy on a 170whp gsxr1000 race bike decked out in ohlins and brembo's and slicks getting passed by me on the track and was losing 3-5 seconds to me per lap was implying afterwards that I was faster because I'm on a 600 is pure bull.

I don't know why i'm even responding to your comment but on the 1000 in the Twisties i'll use 2nd and 3rd gear only because that keeps keep between 50 and 120mph and that where i'm comfortable in the Twisties. Now your bike may need to go threw all gears to get to 120 sorry to hear that. You may want to post your Vid before putting down others

Err, you almost ran off into the bush!

Basically, you cant ride a 600 like you ride a 1000 and you cant ride a 1000 like a 600.

I often have this conversation with my suspension guy. He rides a 600 and I ride a 1000. He constantly tells me how a 600 will corner faster with more stability, and my argument is both will do speeds that are too dangerous for the street. So my theory is, you can afford to drop 10-15klms off your corner speed and make it up with the throttle.

Dont get me wrong, I would love a 600 for track duties, but on the road it would piss me off.

teah those were terrible lines in that video and you did almost run off into the bushes. and at no time did i see speeds at 100 mph maybe at the start. your buddies even had worse lines that you, and they only were ahead because they are stupid. learn to ride get better lines and if you are going to ride with guys make them get the proper gear having your foot cut off because you shattered it really puts a damper on a bike career. (unless you are a bad a&* like some of the guys out there that almost do the impossible with missing limbs) anyways learn some lines and braking techniques not trying to bully here but i don't want you to becme a statistic. start riding behind people and follow their lines even if they are wrong it will help alot and you never know they might know more than you.

I had almost as much fun on my 600 as my liter bike except in the long stretches . And i damn sure have as much fun or more in the twisties now . I like power wheelies for one corner to the next and not having to shift all the time . Maybe i just need to find some really good riders with 600's in the twisties round here to show me the difference . I'll be waiting for that day and will have no problem admitting that a 600 got away from me . It just hasnt happened yet . Not that im a super rider either cuz im not but i do have 22 years at it and that must count for something . Im still alive .

I found somewhere that:
After my 1000 got hit I put down a deposit on the new 1000K7 almost immediately, but in the meantime got thinking about whether I really want/need a 1000 again. Then yesterday I took Ness's new 600 out for a spin on a couple of my local racetra... errr, roads. Even though the bike is still being run in (i.e. kept it below certain revs) it was a LOT more fun than my 1000 with suspension sorted for my weight. I never thought the difference in handling could be that much between the two - I reckon that if I had to ride the two back to back through the Pirbright Bends, I would be significantly quicker on the 600 (and safer!). Part of the reason for this is how quickly it turns, but I also loved being able to wind the throttle on with the bike still banked right over and not have to worry about getting big air. I'm starting to (finally) understand that the 1000 is actually too much for the road - can't believe I just wrote that!

I haven't gone and done all the research yet, but I've believe that the 600 and 750 have exactly the same chassis, and that the 600 has a sleeved down 750 motor... Not sure though. Anyway, if the 750 handles like the 600 but has just a little more grunt low down, that is going to be my next bike! Unless Suzuki have chopped 5 more kilos off the 1000... no, no, no, no, I want a 750!

Look dude, if your going to post a vid, be prepared to get critisisim. Constructive or not is down to what you do with the info.

But take a good look at the image I attached. Its like the 3rd corner in one of your videos and your running wide. A good sign your riding past your comfort zone.

Some guys on here might ride pretty fast on the street, but I know I always keep it to a pace that keeps me on a safe line.

Im not going to argue or justify the speed I do in the twisties, speed can kill, but running wide is far more dangerous and puts you in the head on zone with oncomming traffic.

vids here so you know which one im referring to

Wow popular thread... More than likely the new 1K is coming out next year(it's due).
But what does it take beat a 1000? Since everyone already stated the obvious:big bore, nitrous, another 1K, Busa, 14.

Kinda surprised noone mentioned this:
Take a 750, get the suspension dialed in. Lightweight wheels(Magnesium or CF). Pipe, PC & custom map, gearing. The list goes on from there: SS lines, M/C's, etc, etc. Personally I wouldn't bore out a 750, or even a slight internal upgrade.

Honestly I'd upgrade the 750. I already have a bike that will beat 1K's. And a 750 is just way more fun in the mountains. There's always gonna be a bike that is faster & occasionally a rider that can use it properly.

I remember reading someone said something about putting $25K into a bike. Is like hooking up a Honda Civic. Well I'd love to see pics of that bike, please post up pics. I've put more than that into a bike & I'd do it again.

Although everyone has an opinion. I guess not many people enjoy racing. Putting that much into an engine is easy. I've seen $100K Hayabusas'. WSB goes beyond that. And Motogp 10 times beyond that... If you got the money, buy a stable of joyrides. Or just built your ultimate one. Either way, post up pics. I always enjoy em!

Suzuki needs to make their bikes lighter & better handling & quit relying on their (excellent) pro riders to sway your gullibility (Look at the wet weight on the GSXR750 (or 1000 for that matter) & compare it with Honda CBR1000RR. There's always next year. Flame on laddies.

Weigh the two, and let me know what you find - not what the magazine finds.

You do suck a whole lot of ass though dude. Your corner entry speeds are all over the place (sometimes too low, so you run tight, sometimes too high, so you run wide). Also, it's clear you're simply rolling around the corners - you're not precisley timing your turn in / brakes / gas.

Anyway, I hope you don't die - but the way you apex so early, and run wide in almost every corner - I won't be suprised when your face is attached to a guard rail.

+1 . . i hope he calms down one day. . reads these over and realizes, it just isn't worth it to defend yourself. . just take it in, listen/read, and learn from it. Humility seems to be something many people lack in today's world
