17/42 is correct. Try a 16/43. No changes to the chain needed and Yahoo on the power!

Naw > 16/43 is way to much and will eliminate alot of your top-end away. I'am think more of just adding a 44 at the rear.

i have a lowly 02 but i put a 44 on back and left the front the same it moved the rear wheel forward but didnt have to change the chain. excellent acceleration not too wheely prone. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

ps
top speed i put a yellow box and calibrated it with gps true top speed is around 174 + or - 3mph with the 44 thats bouncing the rev limiter

I have gone 16/45 and find it awesome. It doesn't feel any different in the 'wheelie' department but the acceleration and roll on its fantastic. Its all relative.. if you can control your bike on 17/42 then 16/45 will not suddenly make the front jump up all over the place.. unless you want it to of course!

With the speed limiter off it is still good for 275kph true speed on the gps which equates to about 295kph indicated on most speedo's. The 16 does throw the speedo out a long way though, about 16% error.

How can I make up for the smaller front sprocket (as far as proper speedo action)?

Get a Yellowbox from BlackRobotics -
It will fix your speedo error - and easy to install....adjustable for almost any combination of gearing.
