: need 08 buying tips
tahoebrian5 03-07-2008, 09:35 AM Hello all, I finally decided to go ahead with the purchase and am extremely excited! I'm taken with the white and silver although I haven't seen in person yet. A couple of questions I have: how much should I expect to pay for the 08 600. Should I buy the service plan? What parts should I plan on getting immediately (frame sliders, etc.) I'm also thinking I will want to get rid of the stock exhaust. Should I break in first? Also any tips on riding gear would be good. I'm planning on spending 1k on gear. It varies from very cold to very hot here in Reno, NV. I want to have the best protection available. But I do plan on commuting so will have to wear street clothes underneath at times. Thanks in advance and sorry for the scattered post. I'm having trouble concentrating as I spend all of my time daydreaming about the gix!
rraiderr 03-07-2008, 12:10 PM You should be able to get about a grand off retail.
The plan is up to you but if you do buy it get it on line at onedia as they are the cheapest.
Sliders and set the suspension should be the first mods.
Make sure the gear meets CE specs and the Helmet is Snell.
For break in read this

You can dump the stock exhaust whenever but you will need a remap or PCIII.
As for oil read this

tahoebrian5 03-07-2008, 04:22 PM Thanks for the info. One more thing, How are the California models different? I'm a NV resident, should I not consider buying in Ca?
rraiderr 03-07-2008, 11:03 PM They have more emissions equipment to meet the tough CA laws. If you do not need the added emissions where you live than do not get a CA model.
foskamink 03-08-2008, 05:58 AM yeh get sliders, i would brake the bike in and wait till just after first service to have exhaust changed.
dragonz20 03-10-2008, 08:21 AM thanks... great info for a newbie like me!
TheGeek 03-10-2008, 09:44 AM Negotiate the first service to be thrown in. All the dealerships (they're wrong too) say it will void your warranty if they don't do it. So, make them throw that in. Don't pay freight destination or assembly fees. They can't sell you one in a crate nor can they sell you a bike they don't have, so that's their problem, not yours. The grocery doesn't say "by the way, there's an extra $2 charge for keeping the milk cold".
foskamink 03-10-2008, 02:28 PM also its easier to get gear throwin in for free, rather then discount
price on GSXR 600 i orderd was 10,299 euro
i got bike, moto gp dainese gloves, top notch suzuki sliders, lifetime registration, and service, valued at about 11,000 euro. i paid 10,400
peasly23 03-10-2008, 03:48 PM Since when can you negoitiate out of the dealer setup/freight charge? I thought for sure we were stuck with those charges. Is there any way to have them sell me one in still in the crate?
I know it's the same with cars too, they call it a deliver/destination charge because they have to pay to have the car shipped on the semi-trucks. So they pass that charge on to us.
rraiderr 03-10-2008, 09:41 PM Doubt it unless you are a race team or know someone.
foskamink 03-10-2008, 11:06 PM as far as gear is, while i just ride arround town, i wear helmet, jacket gloves, short cut boots, Sheoi and dainese, and a pair of jeans does teh trick

Here in NY you can negotiate just about anything. I always get the bike in the crate, I don't want those idiots at the dealer touch it. If you go with cash you have the power to negotiate.

how long does it take to put the bike together? doesnt seem like it would be too difficult

Basically the bike is completely together. The windscreen, battery and the brake lever was not on the bike. The most of the work it disassemble the crate.
Sorry for the big pictures, i didn't feel like to resize.

sweet:biggrin, i might try to do that myself but the dealership will probably give me some bullshit reason why they cant. I hate dealerships:cursing
dragonz20 03-11-2008, 10:02 PM i got the dealer setup and freight waived for my '08. but i paid full price for it so in the end its basically getting roughly a discount of 800-1000 for it...

You should be able to get the 750 for at least $9500 + tax and the 600 for $8500 + tax. :thumbup
toothpick1710 03-11-2008, 10:59 PM i im getting my 750 for 9300 out the door!!!
dragonz20 03-11-2008, 11:00 PM you're all making me feel like i got ripped off... and i probably did... LOL...
rraiderr 03-11-2008, 11:54 PM Got a grand off my 08 750, no setup charges and 20% off any accessories I want to buy and Also got a decent price for the 07 ZX-6R I traded in.
The only down side is I did have to give the sales guy a hand job in the back room to get the deal.
So next time you feel you got ripped off just think of what it can take to get a deal.
foskamink 03-12-2008, 04:06 AM i always get the best free shit at my dealership, yesterday i bought racing boots, summer pants, and winter pants.
gave me 2 dainese free hats, and a leather dainese coin holder. valued over 100 euro for nothing.

:lol
tahoebrian5 03-13-2008, 11:19 AM Okay, I'm having trouble pulling the trigger because I can't decide what I want. I almost bought a 07 CBR 1000 yesterday. I'm expecting most on the gixxer board to tell me to get the gixxer but Id still like to hear your thoughts. Basically I'm looking for something for weekday commuting, weekend play, and possibly occasional track days. In a nutshell... 08/07? 600/750/1000? CBR/GSXR? (P.S. please don't tell me to get a used ninja 250 - lol)
peasly23 03-13-2008, 11:41 AM I think 1000 whatever's are too much bike to have fun with. All the fun that needs to be had can be had on a 600/750 no questions asked. But to your point, I'm kinda in the same boat, 07 CBR600rr, or 07 or 08 GSXR750.
Any of these three bikes will be plenty and I'm a very experienced rider. The reason to go with the GSXR750 over the CBR is that they are roughly in the same price range, but you get more bike on the GSXR. So now it's down to 07 or 08?
Maybe I was no help at all, but good luck anyway.
tahoebrian5 03-13-2008, 01:14 PM Good thoughts! The one thing I really like about the 08 cbr600 is it is the most comfortable bike I've sat on yet. Despite that I am leaning towards the 750. I really want something very smooth. The only thing making me hesitate on the 750 is the alleged herky/jerky issueI've read about.
tahoebrian5 03-14-2008, 09:19 AM My debate is over, I am signing papers on my grey/black 07 750 today! I got it for $9,899 otd, plus first oil change free and 15% off gear. Now I need to decide what parts to buy. I'm thinking sliders and tank protector should be all I need (not including riding gear). By the way it's been in the high 60's but I woke this morning to an inch of snow... I guess that's to be expected.
peasly23 03-14-2008, 09:27 AM Good for you... That's the bike I want if I don't get the 08 Black 750 instead... Urghh... decisions decisions.
tahoebrian5 03-14-2008, 06:23 PM Took it out for a short first ride today despite high winds and cold temps. Super smooth bike!! no regrets. I got all my gear at the same time except they didn't really have any riding pants. I'm not that stoked on riding in jeans only. Any thoughts on brands or internet sights? I'm looking for something I can wear over my jeans.
rez0469 03-28-2008, 11:00 PM I bought these all weather moto gp pants, water resistant and they are very warm, a great site to go to for clearance items is www.newenough.com
peasly23 03-30-2008, 09:26 PM I just signed the papers for my '08 Gixxer 750 for $9954 out the door including 6% tax. I dunno how Toothpick is getting his for $9300 out the door when the dealer price is $9100. Doesn't make sense to me.
98gixxer3 04-02-2008, 10:55 AM I got mine for 9800 otd with 10% off all items, Toothpick is getting a nasty deal, I offered to give a ZJ but they refused:dissapointed
