I have a set of ebc pro lite front rotors on my bike. I know they are supposed to be floating rotors, but they jingle like hell when i ride and it is begining to scare me. Not only do they wobble side to side but also move slightly in the direction of wheel spin. They came with a rebuild kit containing extra buttons but I have no idea how to replace them. Can someone please tell me how to rebuild these with the spare buttons.

What color are the buttons holding the rotor to the carrier?

Take a close look at the retaining clips and washers on the buttons. Normally there is a spring washer and a clip holding the button in place. If the clips are seated firmly, there is no need to worry.

I've had EBC's for years and went OUT of my way to make them float that excessively. No need to panic.

As for their floating in the direction of the wheel spin as well, well, thats what you get for cheap ass rotors. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/grin.gif

They are the blue hubs with the red buttons

Usually, the red buttons will make things tighter and are meant to be used only initially during break in. The silver buttons that come with them replace the red ones and are designed to have MORE play.

Sounds like your rotors just have a lot of use in em and the hub carrier has just worn down some coupled with the fact that the spring washers have lost their 'spring'. The two combined will cause the jingling, which isn't a problem.

If it still bothers you, I do not believe you will be able to rebuild them to your satisfaction as it will likely require new carriers, etc. Cheaper just to buy a new set.

yeah I bought the bike with these rotors on it. I have no idea how long they have been on or how much they guy before me beat them ... anyhow I only ride on the street so I might as well just pick up some new rotors .. maybe I'll get some OEM ones from a slvage yard or somehting .. I just have no need for the floating design and am sick of every one of my friends saying "dude whats up with that noise coming from your rotors" lol

I took the wave washers out of mine >10kmiles ago. They are very full floating and real noisey, but work great with sintered Ferrodo pads. The silver buttons have the
same working surface diameter as the red ones and don't have the metal inserts, so I didn't bother putting them in, but they'd look nicer.
To rebuild just pry off the clip rings with a screw driver, replace the buttons, wave washers (if you don't want that much float) and clips
with the 'silver set', its easy. I am not too concerned about the noise and 'slop', but call EBC, they can advise best.
The directions state that when the red ones will tighten up, put the silver ones in, but mine have loosened if anything.

I understand if the buttons have steps worn in them, replace them, or if the disk hangs up side to side, then its time for new rotors.
I'm going to inspect mine also, and probably put in the silver buttons with new retaining clips, just to be conservative, but I like the
full floating feature, I am quite happy with these brakes for power and fade resistance.
