heya all, quick query for allthose in the know. Went to goto work this morning and the key would go into the ignition but just would not turn, not even a mm.
1)checked to see if it was bent....nothing,
2)a couple weeks back took it into the place i bought it as it was starting to get jerky, they sprayed graphite (i think trhats what it was) into the ignition and the key slid in and out without a hassle.
3)last night it was pissing down with rain and i had to leave it out for a while, i know your not meant to get water into it and there is the little black slip that covers the ignition, slides in and out, well that busted about three months into getting the bike (got it new, 02 model). They told me it was wear and tear so they wouldnt replace it under warranty.

What i am worried about is that the water has stuffed it and now i have to replace it....

I bought a new bike because i thought warranty would helpme out. This is my first new bike and probably the last...had so many hassles and it has cost me so much...shit
thanks in advance all:)

squirt wd40 in there bro and coat the key in wd40 ,also move the steering slightly side to side as you try to turn the key (dont forget to push down on the key as you turn

hope this helps http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Dont use WD-40, use graphite lock lube. WD-40 will freeze in cold weather and gunk every thing right up. In a pinch, shave the tip of a pencil, the point, not the wood, and dump that in there. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

wd40 is ultra thin it wont stay in the lock very long its more to free it up rather than act as a long term lubricant...then throw some graphite shit in it http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smirk.gif

WD40 ain't going to freeze in Adelaide real quick. Just stroke that baby real nice and don't try and force it. It turn when it's ready. If you've got it in steering lock position a slight jiggle of the bars will help. As for water in there mine fills up every time it rains and never had a problem yet.

Sorry, didnt pay attention to where he was posting from. I'm guessing that you dont get much of a freeze DOWN-UNDA. It gets pretty fucking cold here in Pennsylvania in winter. I've had WD-40 freeze, and didnt want to see that happen to him. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

thanks guys, ended up putting some through it and it worked out all ok. There was some gunk in it, looked like the bit of plastic around the key hole (once was new). Called the RAA (RACV,Road side assisteance) they had a look and said to send to take it back to the place i bought it. Got them pulling the whole thing apart at my service and putting it back together, thanks for the replies people:)
