I just want to know how most of you guys are scrubbing off speed when coming from a high speed straigh to a fairly sharp turn. Basically I am asking for technique and I know practice helps. But I am most concerned about not sliding my rear tire into a turn but I need to use the back brake to scrub off a considerable amount of speed. Do you guys rely on engine braking to knock off a good portion of the speed? I haven't been to a racing school session. Thanks.

I personally use a lot of engine braking, a little rear brake, and a ton of front brake. I tend to ease the clutch out and back the bike into a slow corner. In my opinion it's the best way to carry as much speed as possible for as long as possible while getting into the corner. I had to learn to control the wheel hop I was getting, but have that down to a minimum now. It takes a lot of practice...my advice is to get on a dirt bike and practice.

it depends at fast tracks like VIR where you are on the top of 6th before T1, i use tons of front break and engine break, no rear brake....

You'll find most guys on here use the rear brake very little to none at all. Before driving into a corner, i sit up and throw my ass toward the corner im about to turn into first, then i simultaneously grab the front brake hard and the clutch... i tend to do all my downshifts at once, and right b efore i throw the bike into the corner i blip the throttle and let out the clutch and brake at the same time and dive it in

i use no rear brake any more.. as soon as i roll off the gas i stab a downshift., then get on the front brakes., hard., then let off before i turn the bike in and go....

i never touch the rear brake.

As for braking style, do an initial soft brake to allow the pads to bed and the front end to settle, THEN mash the lever.

I tend to brake as late as possible and then gradually fade off the lever as I approach the apex.
