: Purchase an 08?

Figured I would start a thread to see who already put money down on the 08 600 or 750 and see what they paid OTD.

Always interesting to see all the information.

it would be awesome if someone could post a picture or two of the new 08, at least to see what everyone is talking about and its ugliness without leaving this thread or googleing "gsx 08"

Just a thought :D

If I was going to get one it would be the white, that looks pretty decent. Plus it would be nice to have 2 bikes - one black one white. :) I still say the bike looks "stretched" compared to the k6/k7 and I dont really like that.

Overall the bike looks fine. Nothing all that different to get people to purchase this over anything else. However the pipe looks terrible. I have no idea what Suzuki was thinking. I personally think it is the worst looking pipe on any 08 from any manufacturer by far. Maybe Suzuki is going to start selling slip-ons and this is their way of forcing the market. I hate to say it but the 08 CBR looks way better. :chucks

I'll probably get an 08 750.

If I don't get an 848 first.

Funny how everyone focus on the ugly pipe but makes no mention of the 2 way adjustable compression damping or the re-designed ram air or increased crank case ports.

To each his own. I guess some buy the bike to pose at Strabucks and others like me and my friends for track days and twisties.

Than again I seem to be the minority on the site as I put my money in to setup, suspension, brakes and tires before useless bling.

I already paid for my 08 750. Should be in my hands by end of March. :punk
About the muffler. I think when you see the bike in real life it doesn't look that bad. Anyway this is the first thing what will goes in the garbage, so doesn't really make sense to bitching about it. The bad thing that Suzuki welded the cat and the headers together on the 08'. :hammer The muffler bolts on the back end of the cat like on the new R6.

Great wallpaper pics here of the 750's:
http://www.mcnews.com.au/Wallpaper/Suzuki/GSXR750/Index.htm

They are big when expanded so I did not want to post them directly.

Does suck that they welded the cat on the 08, I am sure the aftermarket companies will think of something - Leo Vinci's offering just replaces the stock can and leaves everything else in place.

Yeah it would be nice to have two bikes, I agree, but if you were concerned with mostly having different color bikes you could also buy a set of fairings then switch them when you want.

They are not giving that feature away free anymore it is an added special order option for the 08.

I a 100% sure these super light frames of the '08 will snap in half even easier. Thats what you get if you want a light bike in an affordable price.

What was causing frames to break anyway? Jumping? Crashing?

Most of the frame cracking crashes was because they hit something not a simple slide. The frames will brake apart by the weld. If you look these frames are very thin. They want make these bikes light. If you use it the way how you supposed to use a bike nothing will happen don't worry.

+1 Thats what I thought. I was wondering if someone would pop up and say the frames suck because it broke when they built a ramp outside and caught 5 feet of air. :wacko

Alamo is correct, all the new bikes are terrible in crashes - light weight parts and going down at speed are not a good combination. The R6 front forks will bend if you touch them against a curb too hard, really depends on the fall. Since 99 or so none of the sportbikes seem to crash well, a good friend of mine destroyed his 01 GSXR600 on a standard low side at VIR - bike hit the curbing a little and the frame was totally wrecked beyond repair.

I caught 5 feet of air on mine......... at 120MPH...... and it was still STRAIGHT, let alone in tact.

Seriously, no joke.

RE the pipe. This sounds SOoooooo familiar as well as the headlight complaints. Basically EVERY pipe suzuki has made since the last of the "old school round pipes" on the 05 600/750 has been met with ridicule :lol.

It is FUCNTION over form with Suzuki...... and that is a good thing :thumbup

If your frame would have broke, you wouldnt say it was a flaw in the frame though, would you. I mean, I dont think they engineered these bikes to hit motocross:cheers

nope deffinately not. wacko.

there have been a FEW that have broken in what seemed like perfectly survivable accidents. a user here that goes by sixx had one. A light lowside snapped it. But those are RARE. With all the impact energy that can be transmitted in a crash, something has to give usually.

Moto121,

I bought mine from a dealer about 5 miles from my house, could have had one shipped in cheaper but I did not want to deal with the hassle of picking it up at the shipping terminal and stuff. That being said with everything I was right at $10,300.00 out the door, and there is about $400.00 in there that the dealer walks away with for sure.

07 750's they wanted about $750.00 less, there are good bargains online but not many dealers local in NJ. If you are near Ohio or in PA you can get some good deals, with gas prices these days driving 5+ hours to get a bike is not worth it for me.

I have a deposit down on 08 750 and I am really excited about getting my first Gixxer. I sold my CBR954. The dealership has indicated that they are not sure when the 08's will start arriving.

That's a very debatable topic.

Jeff one of the site engine guru's has a dyno chart that shows removing the set causes a dip in power down low.

Others claim gains by removing the set and running a PC III.

Until someone does a true controlled test no one will really know.

cant say the 3 mode thing wont be handy

wet mode, normal mode, sport mode. ofcourse 90% of people will have it in sport mode all day everyday.

but in reviews it says the normal mode is good to warm the bike up and tyres ect especially on the track.

the wet mode is a bit powerless but im sure it will be handy when its wet.

also the anti steering wobble thing is pretty good idea.. apparently bikes alot more stable now.

adjustable suspension is cool, not sure if the other models had or not.

but thats about all i can think of right now

That is called a "steerin damper" and almost all modern sportbikes have them. the GSXR has had one stock since 2000/01.

The Srad was a side mount damper, mounted from the fork leg to the side of the frame on the left side.

Moto_Joe
02-29-2008, 09:52 PM
Have you had those forks V-blocked??

The tripple is the weak link, then the lower fork tubes, then the upper tubes or frame.

That is not to say that you cant bend them out of order, but that is typically the order they bend. And anything over like 8/1000ths of an inch bend is too much in a fork leg. You will NEVER see that with your eyes, but it can cause handling issues

I placed a reservation today on a 08 750. I can't decide on color yet to I see them in person. My dealer is expecting 3 750's in each color. I didn't put a deposit on it because I'm a repeat customer. I was given 7,000.00 for my trade, and will put the balance on the suzuki card. I'm trading in a 2007 cbr 600rr with 2,700 miles on it. My first honda after two gsxr 600's. I couldn't pass up the deal on the cbr, I got it used with 400 miles on it for 7,200.00, but I feel to big for the bike, and wanna get back on a gsxr. I'm leaning towards the white/blue 750. My trade:

I paid 12,900 CDN for the 750. Ordered the black/orange on monday and they say its going to be here March 31. All the local dealers are giving you 500 yamabucks for anything in the store. I didnt want to deal with going to the US and getting a bike. Definatly cheaper to get it down there though.
