: 03 Magic Suspension Setup???
Adam Sean 09-09-2003, 08:20 PM I have been doing a few track days on the 03 and have had fun. I am still on the stock tires but I want to step it up. I weigh in at 200lbs and my suspension settings are stock (except fork tubes are up 13mm). Do you have any magic suspension settings that work well on the Track? Jennings is fun...see the picture below from last month. http://www.gixxer.com/uploads/P7271602.jpg
bmoney 09-09-2003, 09:52 PM Hey Adam,
Do a search in the 1000 forum for suspension setup. There have been quite a few threads on this subject in the past several months. With your weight, the stock front spring should be pretty good. If you don't find anything, send me a private message and I will dig up some stuff that I printed out a while ago. By the way, how is that you raised the fork tubes 13mm? Aftermarket clipons? I think the Woodcraft's will allow this.....

Adam Sean 09-10-2003, 05:55 AM I raised the tubes which lowers the front....Stock trees.
racerboy 09-10-2003, 08:02 AM I thought the taper of the fork wouldn't allow that much movement http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/confused.gif Or did you bottom the tree out against the top of the taper? I set mine up like performance bike in Europe. Works great. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif
myleslong 09-10-2003, 07:57 PM Hey racerboy, how about posting the performance bike setup for those (including me) who don't know the settings?
Thanks in advance,
Myles Long
Adam Sean 09-12-2003, 05:05 AM I had no problem with the taper...13 mm is about 1/2 inch...I have seen others with much more (drag racers) on stock parts...

bmoney 09-12-2003, 10:57 AM I don't think that they were using stock parts......the clip ons are below the top triple clamp, right? The fork tapers in allowing, maybe, the 13mm of raised fork tube like what you did, anymore than this and the clip on will be hoovering over the narrow taper part of the fork. You will need a different than stock clip on to grab this part of the fork tube or some sort of shim......
dcver 09-12-2003, 12:24 PM 13MM sounds large! How did you come to this number? I went an extra 3MM.
Adam Sean 09-13-2003, 05:15 AM 13mm is not large....Really did not notice much besides a quicker turn in. Besides questioning an adjustment that WAS possible, does anyone have rebound, compress, preload that works well with a 200lb rider????
myleslong 09-13-2003, 09:15 AM I will reply with my settings. There are no magic numbers. It's all in what feels right for you. I weigh 215lbs. in full gear. Front sag 30mm with me on the bike. 9 out from full in, on compression. 4 out on rebound. Rear, 28mm sag, 8 out on compression, 8 out on rebound. I have also added a 6mm shim on the top of the rear shock for a total of 15mm of extra ride height on the rear. I have not dropped the forks thru the triple clamps. I chose to raise the rear instead. For me, these settings are the best compromisewith the stock suspension. In my opinion, the word compromise and stock suspension go hand in hand. A new Penske shock and a re-valve in the front over the winter will get it to where I really want it to be.
Best regards,
myleslong
P.S. I agree with the other posters that no matter how you measure it, on th 031K the max drop on the fork tubes while still maintaing full contact with the clip-ons on the fork tubes is 7-8mm.
bmoney 09-14-2003, 02:44 AM Hey myles,
who you going to have revalve your fork or are going to install aftermarket valves yourself? I am interested in doing this to mine as well.
Adam Sean 09-14-2003, 01:44 PM Thank you for actually posting settings! I will get a picture of the tubes and post it...

myleslong 09-15-2003, 09:31 AM bmoney,
No decision yet on the forkwork.I have had good luck in the past using local racers recommendations of who they have had good luck with. It seems that all of the big players (Lindemann, Race-tech, Traxxion etc) have a different idea concerning the 03 forks. I will use the winter months to sort it all out.
Adam,
I don't think anyone is saying that the 13mm drop is impossible to do, but that there must be very little clamping area left for the clip-ons. (Safety)
Please post a picture if possible.
p.s. I added 1 more click of compression in the rear yesterday. It seems that the suspension is loosing the tight "new bike" feel at 6,700miles.

bmoney 09-15-2003, 11:48 AM Myles,
I am in the same boat. I have read some of their different schools of thought on this bike and as of now, undecided. Keep us informed of who you end up going with and the results... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif
