: Pitbull front stand? Which is better?
I am looking to buy a set of Pitbull stands (front + rear) Noticed that they got several types of front stand. I want the ones that lift from the steering stem instead of forks. Now... they got 2 types of front stand that lift from the steering stem. One is called the New front stand and the other one is called the Standard front stand. I want to know which of you guys have the New front stand and which got the Standard ones. Any trouble with pitbull front stands? I know this should be posted probably in the product review section but I need to make the order sometime this week and not many ppl browse the product review section...
This one is the New front stand

myleslong 09-09-2003, 06:54 AM Be aware that the standard "stem lift" pit bull stand will not fit the 03 1K unless you elevate the front a little. )I use a piece of 2X4. There seems to be two problems. 1st. the #2 pin that is recommended for the 03 is loose in the stem hole. 2nd. the arm of the pit bull stand hits on the nose of the bike before it lifts the front wheel. I solved the problem by making my own pin that fits tightly into the stem hole (I'm a machinist) and secondly by using the piece of 2X4 to raise the front of the bike a little higher before inserting the pin into the stem. After figuring this out,the stand works fine but it was pretty frustrating to figure it all out.

Ah crap, thank you very much for the info though. Anyone else have problem with standard front stand? How about the New front stand?
Voitek 09-11-2003, 01:45 PM i just got that stand and they have changed the pin to #11 i have it i just hadn't the time to use it

Luttersj 09-11-2003, 02:26 PM I've got the new front stand. I bought it for my TLR so it had the wrong size pin. well, the new pin came in last week but I haven't tried it yet. I'll try to test it out tonight and see how it works for you.
mullerjd 09-11-2003, 07:01 PM Definitely go for the new style.
Palomartian 09-12-2003, 01:28 AM The standard unit is a bitch to use on any bike and on the gixxer in particular. The new one is better in many ways.
antonio 09-12-2003, 03:23 AM I have the older standard style and it's a pain to get on the stand. I plan to buy a new style one eventually...
Thanks!! You guys are awesome!! So, for the 03 g1k, I'll need to get #11 pin correct?
Go with the new type all the way. That's what I have.
shadyg 09-12-2003, 07:21 PM I use the standard and it has served me well for the past four bikes I've owned. It takes a little getting used to, but I prefer it's simpler design. It could be a bitch on a heavy bike though if you're light in the ass. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/tongue.gif
INFERNL 09-13-2003, 12:56 AM I use the Forklift front Pitbull stand... great for everything I need to accomplish... and was relatively cheap at $124...
dave_y2k750 09-13-2003, 06:24 AM I started with the forklift style and recently bought the steering-stem converter. I do like having the option of lifting either way. The forklift method seems to be much more stable, no wobble when your wrenching on the bike. The only real negative thing I noticed about the steering-stem adapter is that it is narrower compared to my friends "newfront" stand, a little less clearance around the wheel. Here is a pic of mine with the forklift converter...

So #11 pin instead of #2?
Lovespicyfood 09-20-2003, 07:29 PM I've had a new Pitbull front stand for my 2001 G1K now for ~6 months and I love it! It's very easy to use and extremely stable. I've never had a front stand that lifts from the fork ends, but because the new front stand is only $25 more I think it's well worth the extra $'s! Just call Pitbull if you're unsure which pin to select. Their customer service is excellent and they really stand by their products!
BunchaMalarkey 09-20-2003, 07:54 PM I'd go with the Fork lift style because it leaves more room for access to the brakes. Plus, seem more stable.
