The front brakes on my 2k3 1000 keep squeeking. What could be the problem besides a little dirt in them? Is this the same problem that everyone has talked about when it deals with brakes on the 1000? Are they just going to keep squeeking and there isn't anything to do about it? Oh by the way they squeek when you first pull the lever or if you lightly brake.

Sorry I have to ask....have you ever owned a motorcycle before?
Because squeaking brakes are common - especially on new bikes. Think about you have two new metallic surfaces rubbing on each other at high friction and heat. The pads have to "seat" or become accustomed to, and it'll go away okay? If it persists you can get some antifriction paste (orange stuff) that you rub on the back of the pads because it may be te metal backing of the pad and the piston also....good luck with that new literbike.

Don't worry about it unless it gets really bad. I had the same thing happening on my 03 when I first got it....and my other bikes too.....

Exactly the same with mine, under very light braking and only when I'm almost completely stopped. Someone here two months ago told me to spray brake parts cleaner on them once in a while and guess what? It works! Lasts for about a month, then I spray 'em again when the squeak comes back. The squeaking isn't very loud but it sounds to me like you're anal about your ride like most of us are! Any little thing or sound outside the norm can really grate on you!

I have owned a couple of other bikes before and one of them I did purchase brand new. They did not squeak like this. Maybe because it was a honda and they have different manufacturers of brake pads, who knows. It is just a little annoying when driving down the street. Plus there have been other threads about bad breaks on the 2k3 1000 so I thought I would ask.

mine squeek as well. never really had this problem on any of my other bikes. i mean they may have squeeked once in a while or something but nothing like this. i will say that it really wasnt that bad untill after a trackday. hasnt affected the braking however. when these pads are due for replacement im going to go with either EBC or PF pads and see if that cures the problem.

This squeak isn't normal. It's bad and you hear it everytime you come to a stop.
Regaurdless if the pads performance is acceptable or not, I'm gettin' replacements.

the sqeak is VERY normal. Mine have done that from day one, different rotors, different pads, different calipers.
The new Kawi's do also, it has something to do with the 1 pad per piston caliper.
yup...it's normal. my front ones don't sqek, but my rear ones do when i use them. try the cleaning thing as mentioned above...i'll be doing that soon as i heard that it does work.

you should hear the squealing racket that comes off a ti-rear rotor!
Clean the rotors with brake cleaner on the inside and the out. They stop better and are quiet as a mouse.
Mine have never squeaked http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif I have always kept my bike clean though. I wipe my rotors down when I clean up my bike with a rag soaked with brake cleaner.
