Just finished installing a slipper clutch to my k3 thanks to gleam machine, it work lovely, I can now knock down from 3rd to 2nd at 100mph with out the rear wheel locking up. It lets me stay in that sweet power spot all the time.
It cost 650 pounds for the clutch and took a couple of hours to fit, best time and money ever spent.
Not sure what to do next!! Have already fitted a PCIII which made the bike run well, the bikes got 160BHP at the back wheel measured on the dyno in "DIN" which is pretty impressive for a standard powered engine. Not even got a full system just an ART end can, wonder what gain there would be with a full system, any one have any idea??

Interesting...does a slipper clutch only work to reduce wheel hop while downshifting? Will it help with getting the power down while accelerating as well (i.e. helps prevent wheelies while coming out of turns)? If so, that would be sweet. Also, are there any ill-effect to the transmission? This could be something worth considering. This and an adjustable steering damper could be on my list for things to do.

The design of the slipper clutch is such that the "Back Torque" only is effected. It is not a "slipper clutch" in the traditional Drag Racing sence. (Soften the hit when the clutch is dumped)

The slipper works by ramps that lift the pressure plate when the throttle is snapped shut at high rpm, and tries to slow the motorcycle down. When the pressure plate is lifted, the clutch slips. This stops the rear wheel from chattering while going into a turn.

The ramps do not come in to play when the engine is driving the rear wheel. At this time, the silpper clutch works like a normal clutch.

Slippers tend to have a bit of a problem during starts (grabbing from a dead stop). I have one to install in my 01 from JOS (EMA USA (http://www.ema-usa.com/index.shtml) sells them) which is a Germany company, but I just have not had everything back running where I could really test it on the street.

Having said that, for street riding I do not feel that installing a slipper clutch may be the best idea. Now for the track, it would be a another story.

Bushy, the best mod I have done to my bike is getting a superstock spec rebuild of my forks. Not cheap at £430.00 from K-Tech but it`s a massive improvement over stock. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif
K-tech turned them around in the week which is top service.

Haven`t tried them on the track yet,and that is where I should feel the most difference.
Planning on Donington next weekend if the weather is good enough. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wait.gif

donnington on saturday 13th?

have you booked and paid or are you waiting to see the weather?

i was going to go, but now its a "quiet" day, no race cans or systems, only original exhausts to keep the noise down, (when its next to a not very quiet airport figure that out!) so cannot go due to the yoshi full system on the bike.

am now looking at monday 22nd, grand prix track noisy day at donny instead

where are you based ? as we may be going up to croft this weekend........

Eric,
based in sunny Barnsley.I haven`t booked or paid yet as I was waiting to see what the weather is like http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wait.gif.
I have a Arrow full system but was going to put my standard system back on to do the trackday.I`m going racing with New Era next year so wanted to get a bit of practice in at Donington.
I have done the national track before and enjoyed it but it was damp with drying line http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bash.gifand I did the usual novice trick of turning into Redgate too early and had to pick it up and go see how deep the gravel trap was http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/laugh.gifLuckily kept it upright. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif
I`m restricted to doing trackdays at weekends now as I have no holiday days left from work.
Who is running the Croft Trackday????May go there instead to save the hassle of refitting my oem exhaust.
Did Croft back in July, loved it.Lapped at 1 min 33.

Darryl.

croft is track time promotions

info@tracktimepromotions.co.uk

croft not normally as busy as donnington, but the inter group is full on that saturday, they have spaces in the fast and the novice, i normally go in the fast group but have not booked yet, waiting on the weather outlook.......if you go, look out for me as i'll be on the gsxr1000 TT bike, yellow and black with the big gixxer.com logos

£119 for the day, its okay as long as the weather is good, but croft can have its own weather compared to the rest of the UK.

Donnington IS my favourite UK track, very fast and sweeping, a bit like Jerez, but Jerez is just FASTER but not as fast as Magny Cours! i dont have any times for me round croft yet...

Barnsley not far away from me in Halifax.....

Eric,
had a look at their website, and the Croft Weekend isn`t next weekend,it`s the weekend after, Friday 19th and Sat 20th. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/dunno.gif
May still do Croft but depends on the weather.
Only joking about 1.33 laptimes http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wink.gifMore like 1min 38 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/banana.gif.
I believe Dennis Hobbs holds the record at 1 min 25 on a K3 Gixxer1000. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/shocked.gif

Whatever you don't go for a bargain on e bay from a twat calling himself atcorse, bought one off him, no instructions initially, then after harrassing him for week he sent thru a drawing, which could not possibly work with the spacers actually locking down the centre. Tried building it my way with the spacer order reversed, but leaving out the extra clutch plate they supplied(tried it in at first but clutch was dragging). Clutch slipped at max load, tried putting the extra plate in and fiddling about until I got no drag. Didn't slip under power, but shifting down the box the clutch would just slip until it felt like re engaging. Took the piece of shit off and threw it in the cupboard. Going to buy a STM clutch as they are the biz, but £650 http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/mad.gif, it will have to wait a bit as i've just shelled out £1500 booking the trackdays for the year

I posted a user review on the STM Slipper Clutch back in Feb 04. Check it out. Best mod I've ever done for the track. But as JeffW said, its of limited advantage for road use.
