Alright... Heres what I know as fact....

Front ???/??/17

Rear 180/??/17

Can anyone fill in the rest for me... I need to order some tyres, and don't want to die....

I think I might look either Battleaxe 012SS or Pilot Sports... hmmmm

Those two choices are what I prefer.

However. I am from the camp that a 190 is a street tire. A 180 is good for the track. But. Next tires I buy for the track will have a 190 rear. I like traction over turn in.

I'm in need of the tyre sizes....

And there will be some track on the tyres, but not a ton.... Unless I get rich quick.... But then I'll just buy a gixxer 6 for the track....

Stock from the factory:

120/70-ZR-17
190/50-ZR-17

I have tried 180, 190, 200 on my 01, and prefer the Dunlop 180. The P/S 200 is my current dyno tire

the new style pirelli/rennsport supercorsa 190 section tyre is BETTTER than the 180. i always used 180's on the track as the 190 was too square, but the new style 190 is alot taller and has the same turn in as the 180, whilst haveing more traction, if you see what i mean. but as its taller then the 180, its about the same as 1 tooth difference on the gearing. total tyre circumference/diametre is more with the 190 than the 180 (i didnt really notice this, but its what the pirelli race manager told me)

I just put a dulop 208 GP front and a 208 ZR rear on. the Rear is a 180/55. After one Track day at button willow race way and some street rideing, i have decided that the 180/55 rear is the way to go on the bike for both street and track.

The GP in the front takes a bit of warming up, but when at temp it grips like a motherfo.

I just got done riding on my new track tires,
Bridgestone Superbike slicks,
125/600R17 180/640R17

Unbelievable difference, having only rode street compounds prior to this.

I have to agree with the 180 size in the rear for street or track use though. My next set of street tires will be a 180/55 rear....unless they are making that 190/55 size in street versions then..... http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/cheers.gif

i personally have to agree with Eric i like the 190/55 better then the 180/55's .. currently i have the pirelli supercorsa 190/55 rear sc2 and sc1 front and couldnt be happier.. i also get a set of pirelli sicks 180/55 and 120/70 front and have yet to try them... if anyone is interested in this set of slicks let me know ill let both of them go for dirt cheap simply b/c i like my supercorsa a lot and i dont have anytime for trackdays this semester of school... jetspeed@socal.rr.com

I'd recommend getting the Pirelli Diablos. Never before have I experienced traction of that level on my F2, and when the factory Bridgestones on my K3 wear out, they're getting replaced with Diablos, no questions asked.

As far as sizes, I'm not well-versed enough in these bikes to comment about sizes other than the factory stock.

Allow me to indulge my ego for a moment http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/smile.gif Your front will almost certainly be a 120/70. The rest of the answer to your question depends entirely on how you plan to use the tires.

If you plan to ride like this:

http://www.gixxer.com/uploads/1828205_IMG.jpg

You should consider DOT race tires. A set of Rennsports like the RS1 front and RS2 rear (I like the 190/55) or 208GP's (rear only available in 180/55).

If you plan to ride like this:

Save your cash and get touring tires. Size won't matter and you'll live forever.

so far i've had the stock tires on my G1k. they were....mmmm....ok. you could lean ok on them, but the bike sometimes had understear during high speed turns. this past saturday i got some dunlop 208ZR.....hell ya. with the 180 on the rear. i love the way the bike falls into the corner. of course the 208GP's or michelin pilot sports are better....but they take longer to warm up. if a bunch of guys are hanging out and decided to take off for a run....i know that my ZR's will be warm enough by the time we hit the route. not to mention...the ZR's will last longer. but if your looking for track stuff...you gotta go with the softer compound. oh!....and keep the 180 on the rear...you won't be dissapointed.

Don't buy a 180/55. You can get a 190/55 for the same price. A new GSXR1000 will shred a 180 in three 20 min track sessions, trust me. As for me, I don't like the Dunlop 208 GP's anymore because of how unstable they are under full acceleration. But, don't let anyone tell you that you can't get a Dunlop 280GP in the 190/55/17 configuration. It's BS. I'll send you pictures of mine if you like. But, they didn't last for shit and I payed a fortune for them.

I'd just stick with the 190/50/17 in the rear and have no problems until your exhaust can touches down. I bought the Pirelli Diablo Corsa's and think they are a much better choice for street riding. Superior feedback, rock solid under acceleration, holds a line through the corners.

They are race tires, they are not meant to last. Do you see any GSXR1000 race bikes with 190/55 rear tires? Enough said.

Ummmmm OK. The 180 is the size of the tire, not the compound. You can get a 180/55 in street compound that will last as long as a 190/50 in similar compound. Now, the extra rubber of the 190 MAY help with heat dispusrion, then again, it just may heat up all the faster due to increased rubber contact while riding upright!
I don't know how you think that the 1000 will shred one size tire over another http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/wtf.gif

Get the 180/55 for quicker turn in
get the 190/55 if you opt for race compounds- but pay the extra $$$!!!
Or stay stock with the 190/50 size in any of the various compounds.

a gixxer 1000 can shred any tire in 1 session if the suspension isnt set up and the rider is ham fisted... so that doesnt say much. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/thumb.gif

Yes, I'd like to see a picture of a 190/55 208.

well ar'nt you the guy that knows everything. http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/applause.gif.....almost everone running in the uk superstock, where all the front runners use gsxr1000, use the 190 section supercorsa's/rennsports. i was reticent to use them as i like the turn in on the 180, but after i tried them, i will carry on using them and will NOT go back to the 180s. it does depend on the maker, but the new style 190 section supercorsa/rennsport tyres are fantastic on the track. cannot comment on dunlop/michelin/avon etc as not used them

i agree that a badly set up bike with a ham fisted rider can shed any tyre in a 20 min session, regardless of whether its a 180/190/200 or a 160! the true race rubber is on designed to last a 20 or 25 lap race, so what do you expect to happen to thetyre after a few sessions, if your fast enough! if you want a tyre to last, go buy some touring rubber and get 10,000 miles of straight line riding from them.
