I have an extra COMPLETE head for my 03.
My question is what kind of head work can I have done to it to gain more HP?
If it isn't worth I guess I can sell it.

Port/Polish, cam work, valve work............what can I do with it?

I can't beleive that as many people that work on bikes and stuff don't want to share some info on this subject.

Someone has to know something........or is it that the bike is so new that no one really knows what can be done to the head on this bike to gain HP (which I kinda doubt)?

The most that I have read is don't port at all. Just have it polished up some.

I think the question was too open. What's your budget? Do you have a target HP? What else are you doing to it?

I suggest that you send you head off for work, you can really screw stuff up if you do not know what you are doing. I suggest Shane Clark of Clark Performance Racing (ex Valvoline & Crona Suzuki AMA wrench). He has done everything on my motor, and short of Henry of Yoshimura I do not feel I could find a better builder.

Let me know if you need his email or phone number.

Jeffw,

Send me a contact number. What will he do to it to gain some HP without dumping more money then needed into it?

I can tell you what not to do. Don't polish.

Anyone that is polishing ports is not going to get good power for you.

If you don't believe me have a look at a golf ball for some clues.

Or if you still want some more clues ask an engineer that works in fluid flows about flow in ribbeb or corrugated pipes versus smooth pipes.

I had the opportunity too look inside some record holding alcohol class drag racing heads and you would be suprised what the ports looked like.

Polished ports don't really make more power. It is nothing more than i gimick. None of the top head people do that. As for drag motors, they will really be hurt by polished intake ports beacuse it needs the "satin' type finish to help atomize the fuel as they never get up to full operating temp.

So polished ports are only for Harleys http://www.gixxer.com/forums/images/graemlins/bounce.gif
